Located on 360 scenic acres along the Trinity River and just minutes from downtown Fort Worth, YMCA Camp Carter offers enriching summer camp experiences through 11 weeks of summer day camp and 1 week of overnight camp.

As a Camp Counselor, you will play a pivotal role in creating a memorable and impactful camp experience. You will supervise and lead a group of campers in daily activities, evening programs, and overnight stays, ensuring a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment. Camp Counselors are actively involved in all aspects of camp life, bringing energy, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude to every activity.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provide opportunities for the group so that each individual experiences success.
  2. Assist each camper with meeting personal goals and those established by the camp for camper development.
  3. Follow established procedures for supervising camper health and enforcing all safety regulations.
  4. Maintain health, safety, and cleanliness in program areas.
  5. Identify and report any potential risks.
  6. Follow established health and safety standards of the YMCA and Dept. of Public Health.
  7. Supervise campers throughout daily activities and ensure program areas are safe for current activities.
  8. Take and maintain attendance throughout the day.
  9. Lead specialized activities according to training.
  10. Support activity specialists when attending activities with one’s group.
  11. Assist the pool staff and lifeguards with maintaining safety during swim activities.
  12. Actively participate in staff training, meetings, etc.
  13. Help out with all camp activities and participate as a member of the camp staff team.
  14. Demonstrate/teach the YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility with all campers and staff.
  15. Follow all camp rules, regulations, and policies and enforce them among peers.
  16. Maintain positive public relations with parents, visitors, and the general public at all times.
  17. Able to visually and audibly identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to assigned activities.
  18. Capable of responding appropriately to emergencies and situations requiring first aid and/or CPR.
  19. Submit all required paperwork on time.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.
  21. Supervise campers with co-counselor during evening program.
  22. Live in cabin with campers and co-counselor, ensuring 24-hour supervision.
  23. Attend all Camp Counselor trainings and orientation.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Prior camp staff experience or equivalent experience preferred.
  2. At least 18 years old (by May 27th).
  3. Available May 12th – August 10th, 2025 to live on-site.
  4. Desire and ability to supervise children.
  5. Desire and ability to work in a camp setting.
  6. Good role model, high integrity, and adaptable.
  7. Ability to understand and follow directions.
  8. Positive attitude and ability to build and work as a cohesive team.
  9. Current First Aid and Adult and Child CPR certifications or willingness to obtain (training will be provided).

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment that requires patience, focus, and diligence.
  2. Must be able to work outside for extended periods of time during summer conditions, including heat.
  3. Meet strength and lifting requirements of 40 lbs.
  4. See and observe all sections of an assigned zone or area of responsibility.

ADDITIONAL APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Clean criminal record check. (Must be able to pass a Background Records Check prior to working directly with children.)
  2. Complete First Aid and CPR certifications within the first 30 days of hire. Training Provided.
  3. Attendance of all required camp trainings.
