Job description

Department Overview:

Madison School & Community Recreation (MSCR) is Madison’s public recreation provider. MSCR offers a wide variety of athletic, recreational, arts and enrichment activities and classes for all ages in an accessible, inclusive setting. Programs include swimming instruction, MSCR on the Move, arts & enrichment classes, youth summer camps, sports camps & clinics, adult & 50+ fitness, adult sport leagues including pickleball, softball and tennis, and a wide variety of outdoor pursuits including paddling sports, pontoon trips, camping, orienteering and challenge courses.

As a department of the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), MSCR also provides afterschool enrichment activities, clubs and sports as well as summer programming in Madison elementary, middle and high schools, Allied Learning Center and Meadowood Neighborhood Center. Afterschool clubs and sports include: arts & enrichment, homework/academic clubs, drama, dance, skiing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, cross country and much more!

Anticipated Start Date: 06/13/2025

Anticipated End Date: 08/15/2025

Anticipated Hours Per Week: Minimum: 35 Maximum: 40

Schedule: 7:30 am-5:45 pm. Staff will work five eight-hour days each week with a 30 minute unpaid lunch break.

Salary/Wage Range: Minimum: $15.00 Maximum: $16.40

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:
Prior experience working with children.
Ability to work Monday thru Friday 8 hours/day.
Comfortable in water. Ability to swim and/or supervise in a pool area.
Must be 16 or older.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with youth in a recreation or childcare setting.
Experience planning and leading activities.
Experience providing accommodations for individuals with disabilities.
Bilingual in Spanish or Hmong or other languages.
CPR Certification.
First Aid training.

Position Summary/Job Duties:

Attend training week. June 13-20. No training June 19.
Plan, prepare for and lead recreation and enrichment activities for elementary-age children at school sites.
Supervise daily indoor and outdoor activities.
Keep students safe by creating a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment.
Work as a team with other program staff to carry out responsibilities.
Maintain a clean and organized classroom and site.
Interact with parents as needed.
Supervise group during off-site field trips, including swim lessons.
End of day cleanup.
Other duties as assigned.

Program Dates:
Training: June Staff Training Week- In person, June 13 - June 20 on site 9am-5pm, No training June 19th.
Program Dates: June 23 – August 15, 2025, No program/staff July 4 (unpaid holiday closure).

Work Location: Anana Elementary, Henderson Elementary, Lake View Elementary, Lowell Elementary, Midvale Elementary.
