Job Description

Looking for enthusiastic, creative individuals to join our Summer Camp team for the Summer of 2025!

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Camp Program Director, the Camp Coordinator is responsible for carrying out all duties related to their assigned program in a manner consistent with the aims of the Old Colony Y. The Camp Coordinator will uphold the employee code of conduct and will ensure that all areas of the job responsibilities reflect the mission of the Old Colony Y and the regulating agency. They will demonstrate and promote the character traits of caring, responsibility, honesty, and respect in all job duties.

Job Responsibilities
  1. Program Responsibility:
  • Develop appropriate curriculum and activities for various skill and age levels, and implement a program designed to motivate the children of camp.
  • Acquire certification in specialty areas as required.
  • Handle crisis intervention when necessary.
  • Assist with organizing, planning, and scheduling.
  • Ensure proper setup and storage of all required equipment.
  • Create awareness of the program among all camp staff.
  • Plan and lead daily activities.
  • Ensure a fun and safe environment.
  • Maintain an appropriate staff-to-child ratio at all times.
  • Complete daily checklists.
  • Adhere to all DPH regulations and YMCA policies and procedures.
  1. Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Supervise counselors and other staff involved in program activities.
  1. Fiscal Responsibilities:
  • Follow fiscal policies outlined by the YMCA.
  • Maintain and inventory supplies and equipment.
  1. Facility and Housekeeping Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a sanitary and healthy environment.
  • Be familiar with emergency procedures.
  • Complete checklists daily.
  1. Community and Volunteer Responsibilities:
  • Assist in public relations events sponsored by the YMCA.
  • Attend family nights and open houses.
  • Provide courteous service to campers, parents, and volunteers.
  • Contribute to a positive work environment through enthusiasm and cooperation.
Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Minimum of 6 months to 1 year experience in camp or school-age programs or teaching.
  • Certification in specialty areas if required (e.g., ropes, waterfront).
  • Good interpersonal communication skills.
  • Evidence of a physical examination every two years.
  • Negative Mantoux TB test and immunity for measles, mumps, and rubella.
  • Certification of good health from a physician.
  • Ability to walk around camp all day, stand, stoop, and sit.
