Job Posting: Caltrans Highway Maintenance Worker

Under the general supervision of a Caltrans Maintenance Leadworker or first-line Supervisor, the incumbent will perform duties associated with Culvert Inspections using a Rover Camera unit. This role involves handling and lifting large quantities of 50 lb. bags, and may require work out of town on a per diem basis. The incumbent will also collaborate with other crews on tasks including striping, raised markers, roadway markings, and grinding operations. The position may involve working in stationary freeway lane closures and requires the ability to work overtime, irregular shifts, alternate work schedules, including holidays, weekends, and annual night inspections. The incumbent must be prepared to respond to emergency situations as deemed necessary by the Supervisor.

Eligibility

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Highway Maintenance Worker exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions), you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. Working Conditions

Position located at Culvert Inspection Crew Specialty Region, Alameda County.

Minimum Requirements
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License (CDL) is required.
  • Successful completion of a Drug Screening prior to hiring.
  • Possession of a valid and unrestricted Class C driver’s license.

To qualify, applicants must include all employment history on the Employment Application (STD 678), including detailed job descriptions, hours worked per week, and start/end dates (MM/DD/YYYY). Application packages without this information will experience delays in processing.
