Caltrans Equipment Operator I in Los Angeles County operates, maintains, and repairs various maintenance equipment under supervision. The role may involve working with a crew on highway maintenance tasks and may assign the incumbent as a dedicated operator on specialty equipment.
The position is permanent, full-time and requires a valid California CDL, plus a drug screening before hire, and a Class B CDL with Tank Vehicle endorsement and medical certificate.

Under the direction of a Caltrans Maintenance Supervisor or guidance of a Caltrans Highway Maintenance Leadworker, the Caltrans Equipment Operator I operates, maintains, and repairs various maintenance equipment. Incumbent will work individually or with a crew performing tasks related to highway maintenance work. Employee may be assigned as a dedicated operator on specialty equipment. May be loaned to other cost centers.

Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the CALTRANS EQUIPMENT OPERATOR I exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
