KENTECH Consulting Inc. is seeking highly experienced and credentialed POST-Certified Field Investigators to support an upcoming contract with the California Highway Patrol (CHP). This is a 1099 contract role ideal for retired law enforcement officers or seasoned investigators with a proven track record in peace officer background investigations.

You will be responsible for conducting comprehensive pre-employment background investigations for CHP candidates, including uniformed officers, dispatchers, and others in sensitive roles. All work must be conducted within California—out-of-state travel is not permitted.

Conduct full-scope pre-employment background investigations in compliance with California POST standards

Interview applicants, employers, neighbors, references, and law enforcement contacts

Perform in-person residence verification, employment checks, and neighborhood canvassing

Gather and validate records: education, military, court, and credit history

Enter case data and submit detailed written reports using the eSOPH system or equivalent tools

Work under strict 60-day turnaround timeframes per investigation

Maintain the chain of custody and confidentiality across all documentation

You must reside in or be able to travel to one or more of the following divisions:

Required Qualifications

ACTIVE POST Certified

Licensed Private Investigator in California OR Active California Attorney License

Active BSIS License (Bureau of Security and Investigative Services)

Minimum 4 years of experience in pre-employment background investigations

Minimum 1,000 peace officer background investigations completed

Must have worked with law enforcement agencies within the last 2 years

Familiarity with eSOPH or similar case management systems

Valid California driver's license and access to reliable transportation

Former law enforcement or military background

CVSA (Certified Voice Stress Analyst) Certification – National Institute of Truth Verification

Spanish or other bilingual capability a plus

Experience conducting investigations for CHP, local PDs, or federal agencies

Contractor Role (1099)

Hourly Rate: $40–$55/hr based on experience and region

Investigations may range from $175.00 to $750.00 per case, depending on complexity

Flexible hours but firm deadlines

Contractors are responsible for their own tools, licensing, insurance, and taxes
