About Mothers Against Media Addiction

MAMA’s mission is to end childhood screen addiction, support families in raising healthy kids, and prevent runaway tech. We do this by educating parents, getting smartphones out of schools, and ensuring technology products have basic safeguards like other consumer products. Our goal is to live in a world where real-life experiences and interactions remain at the heart of a healthy childhood.

Since its inception in 2024, MAMA has rapidly established a platform for parents and caregivers of all backgrounds to engage in advocacy. Having grown to 551 chapters nationwide and contributed to landmark child digital safety legislation in California, New York, Nebraska, Illinois, South Carolina and other states, we are deepening our commitment to centering the leadership of multicultural communities, including Latine, Black, and Indigenous communities in our ongoing advocacy and organizing work, by specifically targeting these communities for leadership roles in California.

Position Overview

MAMA is hiring a bilingual English/Spanish California Organizing Manager with a dedicated focus to engage communities of color in CA, specifically Latine, Black, Indigenous, AAPI, and immigrant communities. This is a founding role on MAMA's new organizing department and is central to a California-based initiative supported by the Kapor Foundation designed to build volunteer Chapter Leader infrastructure, organize BIPOC parents, and drive civic engagement in tech accountability campaigns. Bilingual English/Spanish fluency, both written and spoken, is required for the role.

This is a front-line organizing and relationship-building role. The California Organizing Manager will recruit and develop Chapter Leaders, move members from passive followers to active advocates, execute campaigns, and sustain the essential community management functions that keep MAMA's chapter network operating at full strength. The position reports to the National Organizing Director.

The ideal candidate is deeply rooted in local communities, has deep advocacy experience in Sacramento, and brings proven experience in grassroots organizing, member engagement, and field campaigning.

Key Responsibilities

Chapter Leader Recruitment, Vetting & Onboarding

This function is essential to MAMA's growth and capacity building for grassroots engagement, organizing and powerbuilding. The California Organizing Manager will own the full volunteer Chapter Leader (CL) recruitment and onboarding pipeline for the State:

• Proactively recruit and screen Chapter Leader candidates in priority states and geographies, including through coalition partnerships and relationship-building with particular focus on BIPOC communities in California
• Vet incoming Chapter Leader applicants; manage acceptance, rejection, and follow-up communications in a timely and relationship-centered way
• Send and track onboarding decks, Chapter Leader agreements, and onboarding materials; follow up with new CLs to ensure completion
• Maintain up-to-date Chapter Leader lists and records in EveryAction; conduct regular audits to ensure accuracy
• Develop and refine onboarding materials, CL guides, and application processes to reflect evolving organizational priorities

Chapter Leader Management & Member Communications

The California Organizing Manager is the primary point of contact for MAMA's Chapter Leaders and a key driver of member engagement:

• Respond to Chapter Leader emails and Slack messages; manage inquiries, troubleshoot challenges, and provide timely follow-up on outstanding items
• Conduct regular 1:1 check-ins ("deep dives") with Chapter Leaders to assess engagement, surface needs, and identify opportunities for deepening involvement
• Support Chapter Leaders in designing and executing local actions, education events, and community campaigns
• Prepare chapter announcements and support newsletter content related to chapter activity and community updates
• Connect Chapter Leaders to one another and to relevant resources, training, and campaign opportunities within MAMA's network

BIPOC & California Community Engagement

As the lead implementer this initiative, the California Organizing Manager will:

• Build and maintain partnerships with priority multicultural California-based Latine, Black, Indigenous, AAPI, and immigrant organizations with for example UnidosUS California affiliates, MALDEF, Dolores Huerta Foundation, Latino Community Foundation, PICO California/Faith in Action, California Native Vote Project Families In Schools, and with tech policy partners like Scott Foundation and NAACP, Latine Ad-hoc committee, Tech Equity Collaborative.
• Facilitate culturally grounded community workshops in English and Spanish at trusted community institutions
• Adapt MAMA's existing curriculum on social media addiction, AI chatbot risks, and algorithmic harm for Latine and BIPOC community contexts, in collaboration with community advisors
• Mobiliz parents to take direct civic action and join organized campaigns aligned with California's tech accountability agenda
• Represent MAMA in coalition spaces, community events, and stakeholder relationships that support MAMA's organizing and campaign goals in California

Campaigns & Field Organizing

• Serve as a field-level campaigner, helping design and execute legislative, cultural, and education-focused campaigns at both the local and national level in close coordination with Supervisor and MAMA’s Policy Director
• Surface campaign opportunities to the National Organizing Director - identifying moments, coalitions, or local conditions that MAMA should act on
• Support Chapter Leaders in executing local campaign actions tied to MAMA's national strategy

Systems, Tracking & Organizational Health

The California Organizing Manager will maintain the operational infrastructure that keeps MAMA's chapter network functioning:

• Use EveryAction and Mobilize to track relationships, engagement, and organizing activity; maintain clean and current data
• Manage Asana project boards and internal tracking systems to ensure accuracy and visibility for the broader team
• Contribute to MAMA's internal reporting cadence with clear, consistent data on member engagement, chapter activity, and campaign progress
• Surface field intelligence to the National Organizing Director - what Chapter Leaders and members are experiencing, asking for, and responding to

What Success Looks Like (First 6–12 Months)

• Build meaningful relationships with existing Chapter Leaders in deepening their engagement and investment in MAMA's mission
• Identify and recruit new Chapter Leaders with a priority focus on California and BIPOC communities through proactive outreach and relationship-building
• Establish at least 3 new California-based BIPOC Chapter Leaders and forge partnerships with priority Latine and BIPOC organizations statewide
• Mobilize at least 200 parents to take direct civic action on California tech accountability legislation
• Design and facilitate at least two culturally-adapted community workshops at trusted institutions such as faith communities, cultural centers, tribalorganizations, and schools
• Help design and execute MAMA's first organized membership activation campaigns, including local anchor actions and national moments
• Sustain and strengthen core Chapter Leader communications, vetting, onboarding, and management functions

Come Work With Us!

• We are a remote organization with the expectation that you will be available during core hours, and can accommodate meetings with the East Coast-based team (10am - 5pm ET)
• Some travel may be required to support Chapter Leaders, attend coalition events, and execute in-person organizing, mainly within California
• Occasional evening or weekend hours for events or organizing activities
• We are currently unable to sponsor visas

Required Qualifications

• 4–7 years of experience in grassroots organizing, field organizing, membership engagement, or issue campaigning
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) with written and spoken fluency required
• Experience building deep partnerships within Latine, Black, AAPI, and/or Indigenous communities
• Experience moving volunteers or members to action in a distributed or remote environment
• Knowledge of California’s legislative landscape, and advocacy experience in Sacramento
• Demonstrated proactive organizing capability with the ability to initiate and lead community outreach independently
• Experience integrating digital and in-person organizing strategies
• Energized by early-stage work, you find ambiguity is an invitation to build
• Experience supporting or developing volunteer leaders and chapter-based networks
• Campaigner at heart; you spot opportunity, take action, and you bring people with you
• Fluency with data, and experience leveraging data to drive decision-making and planning

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with EveryAction, Mobilize, Asana, or comparable organizing and CRM platforms
• Experience working in high-growth or early-stage organizations where infrastructure is still being built
• Background in issue advocacy, coalition work, or multi-stakeholder campaigns
• Experience facilitating workshops or trainings in community settings
