Job description

Founded in 2020, Uwill is a leading online mental health and wellness company supporting students at more than 400 institutions across the country. In the past five years alone, demand for mental health support on college campuses has increased at an estimated seven times the rate of enrollment growth. Uwill’s mission is to increase access to mental health support for students by partnering directly with college campuses to complement their offering. Uwill provides teletherapy, crisis support, and wellness at no cost to the student.

About the Role:

Join the Uwill team to support student mental health. Be part of the solution that provides immediacy, student choice, and eliminates barriers for students to receive the mental health support they need. As a Uwill Counselor you will be offering teletherapy sessions by video, phone, or chat message to students at our partner institutions. This is a 1099 independent contractor role with flexible scheduling.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage an on-going caseload of clients from initial session to graduation from care.
  • Conduct video, telephone, or chat sessions with students.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices and SMART goals tailored to student needs.
  • Practice culturally competent care to meet the needs of a diverse client base including but not limited to: first-time therapy seekers, BIPOC students, LGBTQ+ students, first-generation students, veterans, and athletes.
  • Adhere to the risk assessment and management process of Uwill, including assessing for risk during the initial session with a student and as needed thereafter.
  • Complete session notes within time frame expectations.
  • Respond to student messages in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • 2 years of experience providing therapy in a telehealth setting using a variety of modalities.
  • An independent license to practice mental health therapy without supervision in California (LPCC, LCSW, LMFT or Licensed Psychologist).
  • Bilingual in English and ASL, French, Hindi, Japanese, Mandarin, Russian, or Urdu.
  • Professional liability insurance.
  • HIPAA compliant professional and secure location to perform sessions.
  • Ability to provide sessions via Zoom on a computer or device that has a camera and microphone.

Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and listening communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, critical-thinking skills, use of sound judgment.
  • Proven ability to relate effectively to a wide variety of people of various ages and backgrounds, student developmental needs, nationality, culture, faith/religion, language difference, ability differences, sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.
  • Possess the ability to work with a wide range of individuals presenting mental health concerns across broad levels of acuity including first-time therapy seekers.
  • Ability to assess risk and refer to Uwill’s Clinical Support team as needed.
  • Ability to respond with empathy, professionalism, and meet students where they are.
