Job summary

Huffman Family Brands is seeking a School Age Teacher to support Caliday School Age Programs, implementing engaging activities and ensuring a safe, nurturing environment for children.

The role requires a relevant degree or hours in development and care, CPR/First Aid and health safety training, and 400 hours of professional experience with school-age children. Collaboration with staff and families is essential.

Qualifications

• AA or BA in Elementary Education or related field OR 45 clock hours in Child Development and 45 clock hours Curriculum for School Age Care.
• CPR and First Aid, Basic Health and Safety, and ADA training certificates are required.
• 400 hours of experience working with school-age children in a professional environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage the program space, adhering to MSDE-OCC regulations and company policies.
• Provide a welcoming environment for children, parents and visitors.
• Implement age-appropriate activities aligned with the Caliday curriculum and maintain classroom management.
• Assist and supervise children; counsel using Conscious Discipline.
• Communicate with parents with timely updates and feedback.
• Maintain open communication with team, parents and school community.
• Ensure the classroom is clean, safe, and well-presented.
• Identify opportunities or problems and collaborate to resolve.
• Maintain yearly Continuing Education credits.

Caliday School Age Teachers assist the Program Director in the operations of the before and after care program for school age children; implementing activities to ensure the Caliday mission, vision and values are upheld, and the children are provided with a safe and learning environment. To provide support and direction to the teacher assistant.

Essential Functions:

• Manages the program space, ensuring compliance with all MSDE-OCC regulations, company standards, policies and procedures.
• Provides a welcoming and friendly environment for all children, parents and visitors.
• Implements activities that are age-appropriate and stimulating in accordance with the provided Caliday curriculum; manages effective classroom management.
• Assists and supervises children during all activities; counsels children as needed using Conscious Discipline and appropriate behavior management techniques.
• Communicates effectively with parents, e.g., greeting by name, addressing concerns in a timely manner, giving positive feedback, and providing regular updates on program happenings.
• Maintains open and effective communication with team, parents and school community.
• Ensures that the appearance, cleanliness, and safety of the classroom environment is appropriately maintained.
• Identifies opportunities and/or problems in the program and works with the other team members to resolve.
• Maintains yearly certification requirements including Continuing Education Credits.

Requirements

Education/Experience:

• The ideal candidate will have an AA or bachelor’s degree (or credit equivalent) in Elementary Education, Psychology, Child Development, Family Studies or a similar discipline OR the 45 clock hours Child Development, birth through school-age, and the 45 clock hours Curriculum for School Age Care
• The ideal candidate will have the 9 clock hours of training in communicating with staff, parents, and the public, CPR and First Aid training certificate, Basic Health and Safety training certificate and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) training certificate.
• Candidates are required to have 400 hours of experience working with School Age children in a professional environment.
