Job summary

Trescal in Irving, TX seeks a Calibration Technician - Level 2 to perform calibrations on medium to high level test and measurement instrumentation and to assist in general laboratory duties as assigned. The candidate should troubleshoot and repair simple malfunctions, be self-motivated, and able to lead field calibration activities while maintaining measurement traceability and data accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Two years of technical or PMEL experience or equivalent education.
  • Minimum 2 years of lab experience.
  • Basic metrology theory and practice knowledge.
  • Experience calibrating dimensional and measurement equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform calibration of medium- to high-level test and measurement equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through accurate work and timely turnaround of all equipment and services.
  • Create and verify calibration data sheets for technical accuracy based on instrument specifications and approved procedures.
  • Develop calibration procedures that meet customer requirements while maintaining full measurement traceability.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and efficiently, maintaining a combined QDI/PVI discrepancy rate of 5% or less.
  • Maintain technical proficiency through self-study, training programs, and proficiency testing.
  • Coordinate and lead teams performing field calibration and maintenance activities.
  • Identify and communicate potential sales leads when appropriate.
  • Support general laboratory operations in an efficient and organized manner.
  • Assist the Laboratory Manager with technician training and customer education as needed.
  • Support Quality Assurance in developing uncertainty budgets.
  • Ensure timely and proper preventive maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Perform daily inspections of incoming equipment, verifying accessories, identifying malfunctions, and updating equipment status as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements
  • Military (PMEL) experience or two years of a technical associates degree
  • Minimum of 2 years of commercial or military laboratory experience
  • Basic knowledge of metrology practices and theories, analog and digital circuit analysis
  • Experienced in calibrating several disciplines of dimensional devices, thread plugs, thread rings, plain rings, various calipers, various micrometers, dial indicators, height gauges, pins of all classes, etc.
  • Possess basic troubleshooting and repair capabilities, and the ability to work on unique equipment with product information
  • Proficient in Windows-based and laboratory automation software
  • Ability to evaluate appropriate standards and scope of accreditation to determine if these tools are acceptable for calibrating M&TE
  • Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 and ANSI/NCSL Z540-1 requirements
  • Experienced in calibrating several disciplines of test and measurement equipment such as: Physical, Dimensional, Electronics, Temperature, and Pressure
  • Strong communication skills including written, verbal and listening skills.
  • Proficient computers skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office (Word & Excel), Internet Research and Database management
  • Skilled in communication with customers and peers, including the ability to mentor and train
  • Ability to travel up to 40% (local and overnight, as needed)
