Job summary

McGrath RentCorp’s TRS-RenTelco division in Dallas, TX seeks a Calibration Technician to calibrate, test, troubleshoot and repair electronic test equipment for customer orders, following established guidelines and procedures.

You will mentor others, document actions in the inventory system, ensure traceability to national standards, and support customers with technical issues while maintaining a clean lab and adhering to ISO/IEC 17025 and related calibrations.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience in electronics repair and calibration.
  • Minimum 6 years electrical metrology experience with RF calibration.
  • Experience with ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI/NCSLI Z540-1 and Z540.3 calibration systems.
  • Strong troubleshooting and mentoring abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate, test, troubleshoot and repair electronic test equipment per procedures.
  • Lead or assist other technicians with complex problems and workload priority.
  • Document actions in the inventory system with traceability to standards.
  • Assist customers with technical issues and equipment setup.
  • Maintain a clean, organized lab and follow safety guidelines.

A Day in the Life

As a Calibration Technician you will follow standard procedures and established guidelines calibrating, testing, troubleshooting and repairing equipment for customer orders. You will also assist other technicians with complex problems and priority of work. This position is a critical part of the process to get test equipment to the customer when they need it and ready to operate.

What You’ll Do
  • Practice and role model Next Level Results (NLR) behaviors.
  • Complete calibration, functional test, configuration, troubleshooting and/or repair including to the component level of electronic test equipment.
  • Lead or assist other technicians with complex problems and priority of work.
  • Follow IAW provided procedures, company standards and/or customer requirements for inbound or returned equipment and outbound equipment orders.
  • Document action taken in the software driven inventory management system.
  • Ensure calibrations performed are traceable to the National Institute of Standards or other nationally recognized measurement systems.
  • Assist internal and external customers with technical issues, basic operation and set‑up of the equipment.
  • Clean and accessorize equipment and maintain a clean and orderly lab area.
  • Work on assigned projects with minimal supervision making decisions within established guidelines and policies.
  • Functionally test a unit using a detailed procedure, with limited deviation.
  • Calibrate equipment using manual or automated procedures, with the ability to substitute standards to complete the calibration.
  • Identify parts and accessories related to the electronic equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, repair and adjust units using schematics, repair manuals and controlled substitution.
  • Maintain confidential company and customer information.
  • Enhance the department and company reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing organizational goals.
Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge in the theory of operation, application, calibration, repair and maintenance of electronic test equipment.
  • Wide knowledge of electronic test equipment.
  • Knowledgeable in basic computer skills needed to maintain equipment history databases, as well as controlling computer operated test equipment.
  • High Emotional Intelligence (EQ).
  • Strong customer focus, teamwork, organizational and communication skills.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience in electronics repair and calibration.
  • Military PMEL training preferred.
  • Minimum 6 years electrical metrology experience with strong focus on RF calibration.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex calibration issues and mentor, train, and develop other technicians while serving as a technical subject matter expert.
  • Experience working in ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI/NCSLI Z540-1 and ANSI/NCSLI Z540.3 calibration systems.
  • May be required to be on call.
  • May require a small amount of overnight travel in support of company business.
  • General warehouse and laboratory environment.
  • Lifting, pushing, pulling and carrying up to 45 pounds.
  • Long periods of standing or sitting.
