Job summary

McGrath in Dallas, TX seeks a Calibration Technician to calibrate, test, troubleshoot, and repair electronic test equipment for customer orders. You will follow established procedures, assist other technicians, and ensure equipment is calibrated and ready to operate.

The role requires extensive metrology experience, RF calibration focus, and the ability to mentor peers, with on-site responsibilities and strong teamwork. On-site lab work and ISO-compliant procedures are part of daily duties.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years electrical metrology with strong RF calibration focus.
  • Strong knowledge of operation, calibration, repair and maintenance of electronic test equipment.
  • Wide knowledge of electronic test equipment.
  • Knowledgeable in basic computer skills to maintain equipment history databases and test equipment control.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex calibration issues and mentor other technicians.

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate, test, configuration, troubleshooting and repair to component level of electronic test equipment.
  • Lead or assist other technicians with complex problems and priority of work.
  • Follow procedures and standards for inbound/outbound equipment and customer requirements.
  • Document actions in the inventory management system.
  • Ensure calibrations are traceable to NIST or other recognition systems.
  • Assist customers with technical issues and equipment setup.
  • Maintain lab area and organize equipment.

Salary Range: $27.55 To $43.80 Hourly

The specific pay rate and level will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications, prior experience and location.

“A Day in the Life”

As a Calibration Technician you will follow standard procedures and established guidelines calibrating, testing, troubleshooting and repairing equipment for customer orders. You will also assist other technicians with complex problems and priority of work. This position is a critical part of the process to get test equipment to the customer when they need it and ready to operate.

“What You’ll Do”
  • Complete calibration, functional test, configuration, troubleshooting and/or repair including to the component level of electronic test equipment.
  • Lead or assist other technicians with complex problems and priority of work.
  • Follow IAW provided procedures, company standards and/or customer requirements for inbound or returned equipment and outbound equipment orders.
  • Document action taken in the software driven inventory management system.
  • Ensure calibrations performed are traceable to the National Institute of Standards or other nationally recognized measurement systems.
  • Assist internal and external customers with technical issues, basic operation and set-up of the equipment.
  • Clean and accessorize equipment and maintain a clean and orderly lab area.
  • Work on assigned projects with minimal supervision making decisions within established guidelines and policies.
  • Functionally test a unit using a detailed procedure, with limited deviation.
  • Calibrate equipment using manual or automated procedures, with the ability to substitute standards to complete the calibration.
  • Identify parts and accessories related to the electronic equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, repair and adjust units using schematics, repair manuals and controlled substitution.
  • Maintain confidential company and customer information
  • Enhance the department and company reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing organizational goals.
“Must Haves”
  • Minimum 10 years electrical metrology experience with strong focus on RF calibration
  • Strong knowledge in the theory of operation, application, calibration, repair and maintenance of electronic test equipment.
  • Wide knowledge of electronic test equipment.
  • Knowledgeable in basic computer skills needed to maintain equipment history databases, as well as controlling computer operated test equipment.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex calibration issues and mentor, train, and develop other technicians while serving as a technical subject matter expert
  • Experience working in ISO/IEC 17025, ANSI/NCSLI Z540-1 and ANSI/NCSLI Z540.3 calibration systems
  • Strong customer focus, teamwork, organizational and communication skills.
  • High Emotional Intelligence (EQ)
“Nice to Haves”
  • Associate of Applied Science or equivalent experience in an electronics calibration environment.
  • Military PMEL training a plus

  • May be required to be on call
  • May require a small amount of overnight travel in support of company business
