Cake Decorator
Position Objective: To assist customers in their shopping experience by providing them with beautifully decorated baked goods in the most efficient, friendly, and courteous manner possible.
Reporting Structure: This position reports to the Bakery Manager.
Status: This is a non-exempt position.
Knowledge
The following are certifications, formal education, or training requirements:
- Essential Knowledge:
- A valid driver’s license is required for deliveries.
- A food handling permit must be obtained within the first 14 days of employment.
- Completion of ongoing training as listed on the Cosentino’s Learning Plan.
- Non-Essential Knowledge:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Essential Job Functions
- Implement the Cosentino Customer Service Standards.
- Consult with customers to determine their needs and document all orders accurately.
- Know department products, procedures, and policies to answer customer questions courteously.
- Decorate bakery items in a neat, creative, and appealing manner.
- Merchandise cases to ensure fullness, freshness, and attractiveness.
- Prepare, package, and label products for sale.
- Rotate products to prevent sale of stale or outdated items.
- Operate, clean, and maintain cake decorating equipment such as air brushes and edible images.
- Comply with health regulations, sanitation, and safety procedures.
- Operate equipment safely and efficiently.
- Achieve productivity standards.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Resolve customer complaints professionally and involve management when necessary.
- Demonstrate strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
- Possess basic math and reading skills.
Non-Essential Job Functions
- Promote sales through suggestions and samples.
- Restock bakery ingredients daily and notify management of reorders.
- Stock incoming ingredients carefully.
- Maintain decorating skills and speed, possibly requiring prior experience.
- Support company tasks and cross-departmental assistance as needed.
Physical Abilities
Expected physical actions include:
- Reaching overhead up to 78 inches, twisting, and lifting objects up to 20 lbs.
- Pushing and pulling items weighing up to 20 lbs.
- Standing and walking for long periods on hard surfaces.
- Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 35 lbs.
- Bending, squatting, and working in cold environments.
Qualifications
Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
