POSITION OVERVIEW

A Cake Decorator is a creative and skilled professional responsible for designing, decorating, and crafting custom cakes for a variety of occasions. This role requires artistic flair, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of baking techniques and design principles to create visually stunning and delicious cakes that meet the unique preferences of clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary:

  1. Collaborate with clients to understand their preferences, themes, and requirements for custom cake designs
  2. Create sketches, mock-ups, or digital designs to visualize the final cake concept
  3. Prepare cake batters, fillings, and other necessary components while ensuring quality and consistency
  4. Monitor baking times, temperatures, and ingredients to achieve optimal cake texture and flavor
  5. Skillfully decorate cakes using various techniques such as fondant work, piping, sugar crafting, and painting
  6. Apply frosting, icing, and other decorative elements to achieve the desired design
  7. Mix and match colors to achieve the desired shades and color palettes for cake decorations
  8. Sculpt cakes into intricate shapes and forms as required by the design, ensuring structural integrity
  9. Create edible decorations, figurines, flowers, and intricate patterns by hand or using molds
  10. Ensure cakes are baked to perfection and decorations are meticulously placed for a flawless final product
  11. Manage production timelines to deliver cakes on schedule, meeting client expectations
  12. Monitor inventory of baking supplies, ingredients, and tools, and ensure stock is replenished as needed
  13. Provide professional advice to clients on cake design options, flavors, and size considerations
  14. Adhere to food safety standards and maintain a clean and organized workspace
  15. Stay updated on current cake design trends, techniques, and innovations in the baking industry
  16. Strive to exceed client expectations by delivering cakes that reflect their vision and preferences
  17. Capture high-quality photographs of finished cakes for portfolio and marketing purposes
  18. Temporary or permanent duties and responsibilities may be added to or modified as deemed necessary

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   1. Bachelor's degree or culinary degree in a related field, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. Certification from a culinary school preferred
  3. Two (2) or more years of experience as a Cake Artist or similar role
  4. A portfolio showcasing a range of cake designs and techniques is a plus
  5. Proficiency in baking techniques, cake preparation, ingredients, and flavor combinations
  6. Strong artistic skills to design and decorate cakes with precision and originality
  7. Meticulous attention to detail in both design and execution
  8. Understanding of color principles for creating harmonious and visually appealing designs
  9. Skilled in working with delicate decorations and intricate designs
  10. Ability to manage multiple cake projects and meet deadlines
  11. Commitment to creating cakes that exceed client expectations and reflect their vision
  12. Willingness to adapt to different cake styles and themes based on client needs
  13. Ability to think outside the box and come up with unique and innovative cake designs
  14. Complete knowledge of health and safety regulations
  15. Understanding of food cost management and inventory control
  16. Must have basic knowledge of Microsoft Office software
  17. In-depth skills and knowledge of all kitchen operations, especially large-volume production
  18. Knowledge, understanding, and compliance with policies and procedures, job descriptions, daily memorandums, statutory requirements regarding health and safety, sanitation, proper chemical usage, fire procedures, and HACCP
  19. Creative, innovative, and inspired to develop new and intriguing menus designed for appropriate clientele
  20. Strong overall knowledge of menu preparation and presentation
  21. Excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively with guests, management, Members, and other outside contacts
  22. Excellent customer service skills
  23. Excellent organizational skills; be able to function under time constraints and deadlines with attention to detail
  24. Must be willing and able to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends
  25. Work in a fast-paced, busy, and somewhat stressful environment

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Member must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state, and local regulations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in English may also be required.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the Member is regularly required to stand and use hands and fingers to handle or utilize objects, tools, or controls. The Member frequently is required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision.

The Member must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and must have the ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, stack, crouch, kneel and balance when performing job duties in varying work areas such as confined spaces.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those a Member encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
