Cake Decorator

Job Purpose

Job Summary

Produces high quality decorated items and baked goods according to the company’s standard product offerings. Decorates cakes, pastries, cupcakes, cookies and other bakery items. Assists in the daily operations in the bakery department. Increases customer confidence and loyalty by promoting and executing consistent and compliant operating conditions. Provides fresh and appealing products, courteous, knowledgeable and prompt service. Values diversity and supports an inclusive environment by embracing the backgrounds and experiences of the team.

Essential Responsibilities

1. SERVICE (40%): Creates an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated. Ensures the department is merchandised per plan. Delivers daily conditions that meet the company’s expectations for product availability, freshness, quality and value. Offers product samples, answers product questions and assists customers. Ensures customer requests and special orders are fulfilled. Maintains an efficient method of processing customer orders. Uses decoration kits and freehand decorating skills to prepare quality baked goods.
2. FINANCIAL (40%): Completes daily and weekly tasks (communications, online training, etc.). Processes merchandise according to production guidelines; reviews product quality for “sell by” dates and takes necessary action. Checks production schedule to determine variety and quantity of goods to bake. Receives and unloads delivery truck and stores products in designated area. Stocks and rotates department products to ensure freshness. Maintains awareness of inventory conditions and reports discrepancies. Utilizes production planning tools to accurately produce fresh products and follows markdown processes to reduce shrink.
3. LEADERSHIP (10%): Promotes trust and respect among associates by collaborating and communicating company information. Guides the team to meet or exceed goals while adhering to all laws and guidelines.
4. COMPLIANCE/SAFETY (10%): Ensures company standards for safety, food handling practices, and sanitation are maintained. Executes all product recalls in a timely manner. Reports all safety risks and ensures adherence to safety training.

Qualifications

Required Education: High School / GED

Language Requirements: English (Spanish preferred)

Relevant Experience: 0 - 3 years minimum

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Authorization to work in the United States.
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug testing and background check.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
• Knowledge of basic math.
• Ability to handle stressful situations.
• Operate bakery equipment according to company guidelines.
• Possession of Food Safety Certification or ability to obtain within 180 days.

Environmental Factors

While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand or walk, utilize manual dexterity, and perform repetitive movements. The employee may be exposed to various working conditions including cold, heated, and wet/humid environments.

Travel Percent & Overnight: Occasional travel required.

Shift(s): Varied shifts.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age.
• Floater ONLY: Must be able to travel at least 80% of the time.
• Compliance with all company policies.
• Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently.
• Successful completion of pre-employment drug testing and background check.
