Job summary

Chicago Heights School District 170 in Chicago Heights, Illinois, seeks a Cafeteria Worker (Group Leader) to perform routine kitchen tasks and supervise student workers in the school cafeteria.

You will assist in portioning and preparing meals, help set up serving lines, oversee student helpers, maintain sanitation, and follow directions from the Group Leader and Directors. Qualifications include completion of the 8th grade with functional reading, writing, and mathematics.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Check with Group Leader to see what needs to be done for the day’s lunch.
  • Prepare work area (get out needed equipment, utensils, food, etc.).
  • Assist in portioning and preparing the current day’s menu.
  • Help prepare any and all food for next day’s use such as cookie dough, chicken, etc.
  • Perform any job related task that Group Leader, Director or Assistant Director asks of you.
  • Clean up as you go. Do not leave messes until later.
  • Help set up serving line.
  • Help serve current day’s menu items.
  • Oversee student workers. Make sure that they are equipped with aprons, hairnets, and plastic gloves and are wearing them properly. Instruct them in serving the proper portions of all food items.
  • Clean and sanitize serving areas.
  • Pitch in and clean soiled pots, pans, shelves, etc., on an ongoing basis.
  • All surfaces coming into contact with food must be washed, rinsed, and sanitized after vacating.
  • Work area should always be cleaned before starting something new.
  • Cleaning/washing with a detergent solution and rinsing with water as hot as you can stand, then sanitizing.
  • Wrap and properly store all leftovers. Make sure all canned food is removed from the can and put in the proper containers.
  • Always check with the Group Leader before leaving and signing the time sheet.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Performs a variety of routine kitchen tasks essential to the operation of serving meals in a school cafeteria.

REPORTS TO

Food Service Director, Food Service Director Assistant and other Central Office Administrators

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary, benefits and work year to be established by the Cafeteria Workers Contract.

SALARIE RANGE

$16 - $18 PER HOUR
