Wayne Township Public Schools in Wayne, New Jersey seeks an Educational Support Staff (Non Certified)/School Cafeteria Playground Aide to assist in supervising cafeteria and playground areas, enforce district rules, and support student safety and well-being.

The role requires at least a high school diploma, strong communication, and the ability to follow directions and work under stress. Reports to the Building Principal and involves close collaboration with teachers and nurses.

Qualifications

  • Equivalent to completion of 12th grade.
  • Knowledge of school rules and regulations; student needs; first aid; and appropriate rules, student behavior expectations, materials and equipment, etc., needed for student activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in overseeing the cafeteria and playground areas and perform other student coordinating work with regard to maintaining order safety, and cleanliness on school property.
  • In the cafeteria and playground assist in the enforcement of the rules as determined by the district.
  • Assist students during lunch periods and from established stations during recess.
  • Treat students in a positive, fair, and consistent manner.
  • Assist in the intervention in problematic social interactions among students to foster more positive, considerate behavior.
  • Communicate problems/concerns to teacher and/or nurse, and communicate serious incident problems to the Principal.
  • Complete disciplinary forms in order to report repeated student behavioral problems.
  • Work with other cafeteria/playground coordinators in a positive, professional manner.
  • Inspect the playground equipment and playground regularly. Report problems to the Principal.
  • Perform such other responsibilities consistent with this job description as may be assigned by the building Principal.
  • Actively monitor students by circulating on the playground and at recess as designated by the building principal.
  • Maintain a presence in both the cafeteria and on the playground by regularly checking all exits and playground equipment.
  • Attend to students by maintaining proximity and re-directing as necessary.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

REPORTS TO:

Building Principal. S/he shall assist students in attendance at a particular school site.

ANNUAL EVALUATION:

Performance of this position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's policy on the evaluation of non-certificated staff.
