Job summary

Newport News Public Schools is seeking a Manager-in-Training to supervise the child nutrition operation in the absence of the manager. You will run the daily cafeteria operations in compliance with NNPS Child Nutrition Services, USDA and state/federal rules.

You will supervise staff, implement high standards for nutrition, food production, financial accountability and student services as set by the Child Nutrition Services Office, ensuring safety, accuracy and timely paperwork.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with 4 years in food services or a related degree.
• Ability to operate a computer with basic software (Windows, Word, Excel).
• Ability to organize, delegate, instruct, supervise and evaluate people.
• Comfort with standard food production and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Oversee ordering, receiving, storing, handling, preparing and serving food per standards.
• Inspect deliveries, cleanliness, temperatures, equipment and schedule maintenance.
• Ensure sanitation and safety practices meet state and local standards.
• Maintain accurate paperwork: inventories, records, payroll, deposits and reimbursements.
• Plan schedules, train and supervise staff; promote healthy eating and meals served.
• Operate computer functions for reporting, emails and notifications.
• Cook, bake and cashier duties as needed; attend manager meetings and trainings.
