Job summary

New Haven Public Schools is seeking a General Worker - Cafeteria to assist in food preparation, service and cleanup for students and staff. The role involves operating basic kitchen equipment, handling money at the point of sale, and maintaining sanitation records under HACCP guidelines.

Responsibilities include assisting with breakfast, lunch and snack service, stocking supplies, and keeping production and temperature logs up to date.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read and write; no prior experience required.
• Ability to stand and walk short distances during shifts.
• Must maintain good health and a neat appearance.
• Be pleasant and cheerful with students.
• Cooperative and able to work well with others.
• Ability to present food attractively.
• Ability to use computer for meal claiming, production, inventory and HACCP records.

Responsibilities

• Works with Cafeteria staff to prepare and serve meals per guidelines.
• Cleans dining tables, chairs and related areas.
• Engages in cashier service and meal claims.
• Operates dish machine and cleans pots and equipment.
• Maintains inventory records and HACCP temperature logs.
