Job summary

Boston Public Schools is seeking a Standby Cafeteria Manager to provide coverage across district kitchens on an as-needed basis. This full-time role supports the Food and Nutrition Services team and ensures safe, quality meals for students while maintaining staff supervision.

The position requires travel to various school sites, flexible hours, and adherence to district policies. Candidates must have a high school diploma, food safety certification, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED is required.
Food safety certification for managers (ServSafe) required.
Passing grade on Manager’s Proficiency Exam.
Experience with Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
Ability to lift 50 lbs and work in varied temperatures.

Responsibilities

Provides supervision to cafeteria staff to maintain uniform standards and practices.
Provides training to cafeteria staff in areas of food preparation, quality control, and sanitation, as needed.
Supervises and participates in food preparation and service to maintain high standards of flavor and appearance.
Orders food and supplies in accordance with menu and volume requirements.
Verifies deliveries and safeguards storage of food and supplies.
Establishes daily and weekly work schedules and delegates assignments.
Instructs personnel in equipment use and care.
Ensures health and safety per Massachusetts Sanitary Code.
Maintains records of sales, inventory, and personnel.
Promotes harmony and teamwork among staff.
