Job summary

Wayne County Public Schools is seeking a Cafeteria Manager to effectively lead the school nutrition program. The role oversees food service operations, supervises cafeteria staff, and ensures health, sanitation, and safety standards are met.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, at least three years in child nutrition or similar foodservice with ServSafe or equivalent certification, and a valid North Carolina driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain food and supervise food preparation and service.
  • Supervise performance of cafeteria employees at site(s) assigned.
  • Supervise maintenance of facilities to maintain health, sanitation, and safety standards.
  • Strive to meet Child Nutrition Manager performance metrics to keep the program self-supporting and financially solvent.
  • Maintain complete and accurate purchasing documentation, fiscal reports, inventories, and other records; make daily deposits.
  • Cultivate positive relationships with parents, employees, and students; ensure cafeteria presents a positive image.
  • Perform public relations duties including cafeteria promotions, nutrition education programs, and tours; participate in training programs.
  • Perform related duties as requested by the Director or supervisor.

Qualifications
  • High School degree or equivalent.
  • Three years' experience in child nutrition or similar foodservice and certified ServSafe or equivalent.
  • Valid North Carolina driver's license.

Reports To: School Principal

Job Goal: To effectively manage a Wayne County Public Schools System cafeteria.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Obtain food and supervises food preparation and service.
  • Supervise performance of cafeteria employees at site(s) assigned.
  • Supervise maintenance of facilities in order to maintain standard of health, sanitation, and safety.
  • Strive to meet the Child Nutrition Manager performance metrics in order to ensure the Child Nutrition Program is self-supporting and that it remains financially solvent.
  • Maintain complete and accurate purchasing documentation, fiscal reports, inventories, and other records as required. Makes daily deposits.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive and professional relationships with parents, employees, and students. Assure the cafeteria presents a positive, professional image at all times.
  • Perform public relations duties which may include cafeteria promotions, nutrition education programs for the classroom, and tours. Participate in training programs.
  • Perform related duties as requested by the Director or supervisor.

Terms of Employment

Ten-month work year/At Will/FLSA Non-Exempt

Starting Salary and/or Grade: NC State Salary Schedule

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board and local policy on evaluation of personnel.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work with and supervise other employees.
  • Demonstrate functional knowledge of principles of nutrition and meal planning, equipment usage and care, sanitation, purchasing, cost control, personnel management, child nutrition management, and administration.
  • Capable of performing all jobs within cafeteria operations and training others.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 15-20 pounds.
