Job summary

York City School District is seeking a food service assistant to support daily meal preparation and service in the school cafeteria. The role involves operating kitchen equipment, following safety and cleanliness procedures, and serving meals to students and staff.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, valid health/safety certifications and the ability to work standing for long periods. The position requires adherence to district policies and collaborative teamwork.

Qualifications

Interacts with others professionally and respectfully.
Able to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks.
Clearances and trainings required (Act 34/151, FBI) and drug screening.

Responsibilities

Uses recipes to prepare food for service.
Operates kitchen equipment (slicer, grinder, mixer, can opener, dishwasher, stove, oven, steam table, POS system, calculator, steamer, kettle, grill, chopper, pulper).
Serves meals with proper portions and utensils.
Follows food safety guidelines (handwashing, gloves, time-stamping, FIFO).
Maintains clean work areas and participates in daily cleaning of the facility.
Assists in cleaning cafeteria tables and seating areas.
Performs additional duties to support food service operations.
