Job summary

Howard University Hospital is seeking a Cashier (Food Services) to join the Nutrition Cafeteria team. You will operate the register, handle transactions, and deliver courteous service to patients, staff, and visitors in a fast-paced hospital setting.

The role requires at least a high school diploma or GED and two years of cashier experience, with knowledge of food safety and cash/electronic payments. You will balance daily sales and keep the area clean and stocked.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 2 years experience as a cashier.
• Familiarity with a food service environment.
• Knowledge of food safety and sanitation policies.
• Familiarity with cash and electronic payment transactions.
• Ability to respond promptly and pleasantly to customers.

Responsibilities

• Collect cash and meal tickets and make change accurately.
• Handle transactions responsibly and never leave the register unattended.
• Provide prompt, courteous service to patients, staff, and visitors.
• Reconcile cash and prepare daily cash receipt reports.
• Set up food service register counters before serving meals.
• Communicate issues to Supervisor and assist in resolution.
• Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
• Prepare and post menus on boards before meals.
• Stock condiments, flatware, and napkins; restock during service.
• Set up and maintain the coffee station and stock beverages.
