This role reports to the Cafeteria Manager and requires high school diploma and prior food service experience, preferably within a school setting. The position involves inventory, sanitation, and supervising staff in a warm, safe kitchen.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Receiving: Match bid specifications with delivered product, bid price with invoice price, quantity requested with delivered quantity, report discrepancies to manager."
• Storage: Ensure stock is properly stored and rotated.
• Pre-Preparation: Supervise/participate in production of scheduled menu items and record production data.
• Service: Supervise/participate in service of food, ensure attractively merchandised and portion-controlled items, record production data.
• Meal Count/Cash Collection: Supervise/participate in meal count/cash collection per rules and accountability requirements.
• Sanitation: Oversee sanitation, attend a 10-hour Sanitation and Safety Workshop.
• Inventory: Record/extend inventory stock levels timely.
• Physical Effort: Frequent lifting 30–50 pounds, sweeping and mopping.
• Working Conditions: Warm/noisy kitchens, exposure to steam/fumes, safety hazards.
• Equipment Condition: Operate meat slicers, food choppers, garbage disposals.

Job Summary

To serve students attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness, and warmth.

Essential Duties

• Receiving: Checking delivery of products: (1) Match bid specifications with delivered product (2) Match bid price with invoice price (3) Match quantity requested with quantity delivered (4) Report any discrepancies to manager.
• Storage: Ensure that stock is properly stored and rotated in the appropriate area.
• Pre-Preparation: Supervise/participate in production of scheduled menu items. Record applicable production data on appropriate forms.
• Service: Supervise/participate in the service of food ensuring attractively merchandised and portion-controlled menu items. Record applicable production data on appropriate forms.
• Meal Count/Cash Collection: Supervise/participate in the meal count/cash collection in accordance with common business practices and local, state and federal accountability requirements.
• Sanitation: Supervise/participate in the general sanitation of the food service operation, in accordance with established sanitation procedures. Required to attend a ten (10) hour Sanitation and Safety Workshop.
• Inventory: Conduct/assist with the timely recording/extension reporting of inventory stock levels on the appropriate form.
• Physical Effort: Frequent lifting or moving of objects weighing 30 to 50 pounds. Sweeping and mopping.
• Working Conditions: Work in warm and noisy kitchens, exposed to steam, fumes and cooking odors. Danger of falls, burns, and cuts. Exposure to extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigerators/freezers from warm kitchens.
• Equipment Condition: Responsible for operating dangerous pieces of equipment -- meat slicers, food choppers, garbage disposals, etc.

Other Duties

Perform any duties and assumes any responsibilities as may be assigned by the school food service manager.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required)

• High School diploma.
• Previous food service experience required.
• Previous school food service experience preferred.
• Quality food production experience preferred.
