Job summary

Haverhill Public Schools seeks a Cafeteria Helper at Pentucket Lake School in Haverhill, MA. This civil service position works 3.75 hours per day (0.47 FTE) and reports to the Lead and Food Service Director. Starting date is immediate.

Duties include food preparation, service, basic kitchen tasks, inventory assistance, and cashiering. Minimum of a high school diploma required; food service experience preferred. EOE.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
• Experience in food service industry preferred.
• Position is an assistant to the Lead with shared responsibilities when Lead is unavailable.
• Alternatives to qualifications may be acceptable as determined by the Superintendent.

Responsibilities

• Performs tasks related to preparation and serving of food and sanitary maintenance of a food service facility.
• Prepares vegetables and other foods for cooking.
• Makes soups, simple hot foods, sandwich fillings, dressings and simple desserts.
• Prepares sandwiches and salads.
• Operates mixers, peelers, slicers, dishwashers and toasters.
• Cleans tables and kitchen equipment.
• Counts and washes dishes and puts away.
• Maintains floors, counters, and equipment cleanliness.
• Receives and checks deliveries and stores foods properly.
• Assists in inventories, cashiering, and maintains simple records.

Title of Position: Cafeteria Helper (Civil Service Position)

Organizational Relationship

or Line of Authority:

• Reports to the Lead and Food Service Director

Statement of Duties:

• Performs tasks requiring an ordinary degree of skill in preparation and serving of food as well as other tasks required for the operation and sanitary maintenance of a food service facility or area.
• Prepares vegetables and other foods for cooking
• Makes soups and other simple hot foods, sandwich fillings, salad dressing, and simple desserts.
• Prepares sandwiches and salads.
• Operates electrical equipment such as mixers, potato peelers, slicing machines, dishwashers, and toasters.
• Cleans tables and other kitchen equipment.
• Collects and washes dishes, silver and cooling utensils, and puts them away.
• Sweeps floor, cleans counters and tables, and counter and kitchen equipment, such as food containers, trays, cooking ranges, garbage cans, and refrigerators.
• Receives and checks deliveries of food and other supplies.
• Stores foods properly in refrigerators and storeroom.
• Keeps stores in good order.
• Assists in the taking of inventories of supplies, cashiering, and keeps simple records

Qualifications:

• Minimum of a High School Diploma
• Demonstrated Aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
• Experience in food service industry preferred
• This position is considered an assistant to the Lead. All applicants must realize this position is to resume responsibility when the Lead is not available.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
