Job summary

Haverhill Public Schools Consentino Middle School in Haverhill, MA is seeking a Cafeteria Helper (Civil Service) for a 6-hour day (.75 FTE) position in the school nutrition program. The role reports to the Lead and Food Service Director and involves food preparation, service, and basic sanitation.

The incumbent will assist with inventory, cashiering, and record-keeping as needed; prior food service experience is preferred. Immediate starting date is available with a competitive hourly wage.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Performs tasks in preparation and serving of food and maintains sanitary condition of the food service area.
• Prepares vegetables and other foods for cooking.
• Makes soups, simple hot foods, sandwich fillings, and simple desserts.
• Prepares sandwiches and salads.
• Operates equipment like mixers, peelers, slicers, dishwashers, toasters.
• Cleans tables and kitchen equipment, washes dishes and utensils.
• Cleans floors, counters, and kitchen equipment; stores foods properly.
• Assists in inventories, cashiering, and maintains simple records.

Organizational Relationship

or Line of Authority:

• Reports to the Lead and Food Service Director

Statement of Duties:

• Performs tasks requiring an ordinary degree of skill in preparation and serving of food as well as other tasks required for the operation and sanitary maintenance of a food service facility or area.
• Prepares vegetables and other foods for cooking
• Makes soups and other simple hot foods, sandwich fillings, salad dressing, and simple desserts.
• Prepares sandwiches and salads.
• Operates electrical equipment such as mixers, potato peelers, slicing machines, dishwashers, and toasters.
• Cleans tables and other kitchen equipment.
• Collects and washes dishes, silver and cooling utensils, and puts them away.
• Sweeps floor, cleans counters and tables, and counter and kitchen equipment, such as food containers, trays, cooking ranges, garbage cans, and refrigerators.
• Receives and checks deliveries of food and other supplies.
• Stores foods properly in refrigerators and storeroom.
• Keeps stores in good order.
• Assists in the taking of inventories of supplies, cashiering, and keeps simple records

Qualifications:

• Minimum of a High School Diploma
• Demonstrated Aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
• Experience in food service industry preferred
• This position is considered an assistant to the Lead. All applicants must realize this position is to resume responsibility when the Lead is not available.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
