Job description

We’re looking for a reliable, skilled, and community-focused Cafe Cashier to support daily kitchen operations while helping to train and inspire the next generation of food service leaders from South LA. In this role, you will assist in helping us deliver an excellent and efficient guest experience, maintain kitchen standards, and work alongside youth and trainees to model professionalism, teamwork, and culinary discipline.

SoLa Impact is a real estate private equity firm with a double bottom line strategy focused on preserving, rehabbing, and building high-quality affordable housing in Black and brown communities. SoLa is Southern California's largest for-profit affordable housing developer and is currently in construction on over 2,000 affordable housing units across Southern California. SoLa currently owns and manages over $1.2 billion of multifamily assets, almost all of which are in low-income, Black and brown communities. The SoLa Foundation, the nonprofit affiliate of SoLa Impact, works to end intergenerational poverty in South Los Angeles through community development and creating new access to economic and educational opportunities for youth and adults. Focusing on underinvested communities, SoLa increases access to jobs, mentorship, scholarships, skills-based technology programs and placement in the most competitive fields of tech, entertainment, and business. The Center will work to train and inspire a new generation of professionals, leaders, and entrepreneurs at the intersection of technology, the arts and live entertainment.

Requirements

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Customer Service & Front-of-House Operations
  • Greet guests with warmth, professionalism, and enthusiasm.
  • Accurately take orders in-person and via point-of-sale (POS) system.
  • Manage transactions, handle cash and card payments, and issue receipts.
  • Answer questions about the menu and daily specials.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in the front-of-house area, including counters, beverage stations, and dining areas.
  • Ensure all guests receive prompt, friendly, and consistent service. Youth Training & Mentorship
  • Model excellent customer service skills and professionalism for trainees.
  • Train students how to use POS system
  • Support the café’s mission by creating an inclusive and respectful environment.
  • Participate in occasional community events or café-led initiatives.
  • Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure smooth order flow and accurate communication.
  • Assist with basic café tasks during slow periods, such as restocking, packaging to-go orders, or light cleaning.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and peers to uphold high service standards.

Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience in a customer-facing food service or retail role preferred.
  • Familiarity with POS systems (e.g., Square, Toast, or similar).
  • Strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and a community-first mindset.
  • Ability to handle transactions accurately and responsibly.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment while staying calm and organized.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus but not required.
  • Prior experience working with youth or in mentorship-based settings is a bonus.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, collaborative kitchen.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and passion for community service and mentorship.

Physical Requirements:

  • Availability to work potentially early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends.
  • Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Valid food handler’s certification.
