Job description

We are seeking an experienced CADD Specialist to provide Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD), Building Information Modeling (BIM), engineering documentation, and geospatial support to the U.S. Army Reserve 99th Readiness Division (RD), Directorate of Public Works (DPW).

This position is ideal for a technically skilled CADD professional who enjoys translating field information, engineering requirements, and existing facility data into accurate drawings, models, maps, and other technical products.

The CADD Specialist works closely with engineers, planners, facility personnel, and Government stakeholders to support military facilities, infrastructure modernization, construction, renovation, sustainment, and long-range planning initiatives.

What You'll Do

CADD Design & Technical Support

• Develop and maintain CADD drawings, engineering plans, facility layouts, utility drawings, infrastructure plans, architectural drawings, and other technical documents using Bentley MicroStation and related applications.
• Produce accurate CADD files from field sketches, survey information, written descriptions, redline markups, existing drawings, and other source documentation.
• Develop concept drawings and technical graphics supporting new construction, renovations, modernization, infrastructure improvements, utility replacement, and facility sustainment projects.
• Digitize and update legacy and hard-copy as-built drawings for incorporation into electronic engineering records.
• Update floor plans and facility drawings to reflect current conditions, configurations, and space utilization.
• Develop 3D models, visualizations, and presentation graphics supporting project planning, engineering analysis, and stakeholder communication.
• Interpret and apply applicable CADD, engineering-documentation, accessibility, federal, military, and industry standards.
• Evaluate project requirements and recommend appropriate drafting, modeling, visualization, and documentation approaches.

BIM, GIS & Geospatial Support

• Support integration and coordination of information among CADD, BIM, GIS, SharePoint, and related engineering information-management systems.
• Incorporate applicable geospatial and facility information into engineering drawings and technical products.
• Support facility, infrastructure, and utility mapping activities.
• Assist with maintaining data quality, consistency, and compatibility among engineering and geospatial systems.
• Develop maps, graphics, and other visualization products supporting engineering and planning activities.

Engineering Documentation & Technical Review

• Review engineering drawings, specifications, contractor shop drawings, and other technical documents for consistency, completeness, drafting standards, and coordination with established project requirements.
• Participate in design reviews, technical workgroups, site visits, and project coordination meetings.
• Identify drawing conflicts, inconsistencies, missing information, and documentation issues and communicate findings to the appropriate engineering or project personnel.
• Incorporate approved design changes, comments, and redlines into engineering documents.
• Provide graphics, drawings, models, and presentation support for engineering and planning initiatives.
• Assist with technical documentation and drawing updates during project design, advertising, and construction phases.

CADD/GIS Data & Systems Support

• Maintain CADD, GIS, BIM, and engineering records in formats accessible to DPW personnel and authorized stakeholders.
• Integrate externally produced as-built drawings, GIS information, and other technical documentation into applicable engineering information systems.
• Assist users with CADD/GIS applications, drawing standards, file requirements, and technical workflows.
• Troubleshoot software and data issues and coordinate with appropriate technical resources or software vendors when necessary.
• Evaluate emerging CADD, BIM, GIS, visualization, and engineering-information technologies and recommend opportunities to improve workflows and processes.

Engineering Records & Archive Support

• Organize, catalog, maintain, and retrieve electronic and hard-copy engineering drawings and archival records.
• Support large-format printing, scanning, copying, and electronic document conversion.
• Maintain drawing files and engineering records in accordance with applicable naming, filing, version-control, and records-management requirements.

Coordination & Technical Support

• Attend required meetings, design reviews, site visits, and technical workgroups.
• Coordinate with engineers, planners, facility personnel, contractors, CADD/GIS users, and Government stakeholders.
• Provide technical guidance to users regarding CADD/GIS system capabilities, drafting standards, file requirements, and software applications.
• Participate in collaborative efforts to improve engineering documentation, CADD/GIS practices, and technical workflows.

What We're Looking For

• Associate's degree in Engineering Technology, Architecture, Geographic Information Systems, Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
• At least three years of progressively responsible experience supporting CADD, BIM, GIS, engineering design/documentation, facilities, or engineering information-management environments.
• Strong proficiency with Bentley MicroStation.
• Experience developing and maintaining engineering, architectural, facility, infrastructure, or utility drawings.
• Experience interpreting engineering drawings, construction documents, technical specifications, redlines, and other technical source information.
• Working knowledge of CADD standards, drafting practices, and engineering-documentation requirements.
• Ability to analyze technical information, identify inconsistencies, and develop practical recommendations related to drawings, documentation, and CADD/GIS workflows.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical professionals and Government stakeholders.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
• Valid driver's license and ability to operate Government or company vehicles when required.
• Ability to meet applicable Government background, drug-screening, Common Access Card (CAC), and information-technology access requirements.
• Ability to travel occasionally based on project requirements.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

The following experience is beneficial but is not required:

• Bachelor's Degreein Engineering Technology, Architecture, Geographic Information Systems, Construction Management, Civil Engineering Technology, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline.
• Experience with AutoCAD and ArcGIS or comparable GIS applications.
• Experience with BIM platforms and BIM/CADD/GIS integration.
• Experience supporting Department of Defense, U.S. Army, USACE, federal facilities, or other complex facility portfolios.
• Experience with military or federal CADD/GIS standards.
• Experience with facility infrastructure and utility mapping.
• Experience with engineering drawing archives, document-management systems, or SharePoint.
• Experience with spatial analysis, geospatial data management, 3D modeling, or visualization tools.
• Experience providing CADD/GIS user support or technical training.
• Experience integrating as-built drawings, field information, GIS data, and facility records into enterprise engineering systems.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position primarily involves computer-based CADD and technical documentation work with periodic site visits and records-management activities. The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including prolonged computer work, reviewing large-format engineering drawings and plans, accessing project and facility locations as required, and occasionally handling plans, files, and related materials.
