Job summary

Electric Machinery Company, a division of WEG Electric Corp., in Minneapolis, MN, is seeking an Industrial Design Drafter to design and maintain production tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing aids, translating concepts into practical, manufacturable solutions.

You will collaborate with Manufacturing, Maintenance and Facilities to develop effective solutions, maintain documentation, and standardize CAD processes while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Drafting, Mechanical Design Technology, CAD Technology, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 3 years of experience creating mechanical drawings and 3D models in a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency with SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing documentation.
• Experience designing tooling, fixtures, manufacturing equipment, or plant layouts preferred.
• Knowledge of machining, welding, fabrication, and manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop production tooling, fixtures, jigs, gauges, lifting devices, assembly aids, inspection fixtures, and other manufacturing support equipment.
• Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for tooling, manufacturing support equipment, plant layouts, office layouts, and custom manufacturing solutions.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineers, Production, Maintenance, and Facilities to develop practical solutions that improve manufacturing operations.
• Maintain engineering drawings and related documentation throughout their lifecycle.
• Support manufacturing, maintenance, facility improvement, and equipment installation projects through technical drafting and layout development.
• Standardize tooling designs by developing reusable design libraries, configurable components, templates, and engineering best practices.
• Create and maintain engineering documentation, SAP material masters, material classifications, and related engineering records.
• Develop standardized and configurable CAD solutions to improve engineering efficiency and automate repetitive design activities whenever practical.
• Maintain company drafting standards, document control, and tooling numbering systems.
• Practice the principles of Electric Machinery Safety and participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives.
