GEODesign in New York City is seeking a full-time CAD Operator / Geotechnical Field Technician. The role focuses on AutoCAD drafting while enabling hands-on field inspections at projects in the greater NYC area.

You will prepare construction drawings and coordinate with architects, structural, civil, and survey teams to support geotechnical designs. Applicants should have 1–2 years drafting experience, strong AutoCAD skills, and a willingness to perform field inspections.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of 2D drafting software such as AutoCAD.
• 1–2 years of drafting experience.
• Willingness to perform geotechnical field inspections in the NYC area.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be able to travel to field sites; valid driver’s license a plus.
• NICET Level II or higher certification in Geotechnical Engineering Technology (Required or willingness to obtain within 12 months).
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification (Preferred).

Responsibilities

• CAD Drafting (Primary): create, modify, and release drawings in AutoCAD under supervision; prepare design drawings for geotechnical and excavation projects; integrate interdisciplinary documents; coordinate filings.
• Geotechnical Field Work (Secondary): perform field inspections/monitoring at NYC construction sites; observe/record field activities (borings, soil sampling, load testing, supports); prepare field reports; ensure compliance with specs and safety standards.

CAD Operator / Geotechnical Field Technician

We are seeking a full-time CAD Operator / Geotechnical Field Technician to join our New York City office. The primary focus of this role is AutoCAD drafting, but the ideal candidate will also be capable of performing geotechnical field inspections at project sites in the greater New York City area. Responsibilities

CAD Drafting (Primary)

• Work with AutoCAD creating, modifying, and releasing drawings under direct supervision.
• Preparation of design and construction related drawings for geotechnical and support of excavation projects.
• Review and integration of interdisciplinary construction documents (architectural, structural, civil, survey, etc.) into geotechnical and support of excavation design drawings.
• Coordination of document filings with clients and various reviewing agencies.

Geotechnical Field Work (Secondary)

• Perform geotechnical field inspections and monitoring at construction sites in the greater NYC area, including soil and rock observations during excavation and foundation work.
• Observe and document field activities such as test borings, soil sampling, load testing, and installation of support of excavation systems.
• Prepare field reports and communicate findings to project engineers.
• Ensure field activities comply with project specifications, applicable codes, and safety standards.

Requirements

• Strong knowledge of 2D drafting software such as AutoCAD. Knowledge of other drafting software such as Microstation or Civil 3D is a plus.
• 1 to 2 years of drafting experience.
• Willingness to perform geotechnical field inspections at construction sites in the NYC area on an as-needed basis.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Solid understanding of CAD applications and best practices.
• Excellent time management skills and the ability to balance office and field responsibilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must be able to travel to field sites in the greater NYC area; valid driver's license is a plus.

Qualifications

• AutoCAD: 1 to 2 years (Required)
• AutoCAD 3D: 1 year (Preferred)
• Civil 3D: 1 year (Preferred)
• Microstation: 1 year (Preferred)
• Degree from recognized CAD training facility or Associate’s degree in related field (Preferred)
• Coursework or experience in geotechnical engineering, civil engineering, construction technology, or a related discipline (Preferred)
• NICET Level II or higher certification in Geotechnical Engineering Technology (Required or willingness to obtain within 12 months)
• OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety certification (Preferred)
