Job summary

Geosyntec Consultants is seeking a CAD Drafting Technician (Civil 3D) to support civil and geotechnical projects across Florida offices including Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Pensacola, Boca Raton and Tallahassee. You will create layouts, grading plans, and details for landfills, industrial sites and utilities, contributing from concept through construction.

The role requires AutoCAD and Civil 3D proficiency, strong math and geometry skills, and the ability to interpret engineers’ redlines.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Drafting or equivalent with CAD drafting experience (required).
• Knowledge of civil engineering basics: sheet organization, topographical data, scales, coordinates (preferred).
• Experience with grading plans, cross-sections, alignments, surfaces and earthwork volumes (preferred).
• Experience with land surveying/mapping data (preferred).
• Experience with stormwater design (preferred).
• Proficient with AutoCAD and AutoCAD Civil 3D (required).
• Basic Windows/Microsoft Office (required).
• Strong math and geometry skills; able to interpret redline drawings (required).

Responsibilities

Geosyntec has an exciting opportunity for a CAD Drafting Technician (Civil 3D) to support project needs in one of our Florida (Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Boca Raton, Tallahassee) offices. The position will perform computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) for a variety of civil and geotechnical engineering design projects including developing layouts, grading plans, and details for civil and environmental engineering projects, including landfills, industrial sites and utilities. Projects also include mechanical drawing systems and opportunities to contribute from the conceptual design stage through construction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Draft, edit, & finalize technical drawings;
• Operate a CAD computer using appropriate hardware and software to develop final drawings;
• Transfer information from an engineering drawing to a final CAD drawing using appropriate symbols and drafting standards;
• Analyze sketches, notes and other input material to determine best approach to complete drawings;
• Copy detailed plans and drawings and perform non-routine complex drafting assignments;
• Operate plotter, printer, scanner, and other input/output devices;
• Proofread CAD drawings for accuracy, format, and grammar; and
• Participate in CAD Action Group, by supporting, networking, and collaborating to improve CAD standards and efficiencies across the company.
• Working collaboratively with other Geosyntec CADD practitioners to prepare design drawings and details and reviewing completed work products to ensure quality.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

• Associate degree in Drafting; or high school diploma and a minimum of one (1) year experience performing CAD drafting work in a professional setting; or equivalent education, experience and training that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities. (required)
• Knowledge of civil engineering basics including sheet organization, topographical data, scales, and coordinate systems is (preferred).
• Experience developing and working with grading plans, cross-sections, alignments, profiles, three-dimensional surfaces, and earthwork volumes for landfills and other large civil design projects. (preferred)
• Experience using/incorporating land or aerial surveying/mapping data and files. (preferred)
• Experience with stormwater management design. (preferred)
• Knowledge of civil engineering basics including sheet organization, topographical data, scales, and coordinate systems. (preferred)
• Experience using the latest releases of Autodesk AutoCAD. Knowledge of AutoCAD includes but is not limited to Annotation Styles, Multileaders, MTEXT, Dimensions, Sheet Sets, Paper Space / Model Space, XREFs, Layers, Dynamic Blocks, and Tool Palettes. (required)
• Working knowledge of the latest releases of Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D. (required)
• Basic understanding of the latest releases of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, Skype, Adobe PDF, and Windows File Explorer. (required)
• Strong reasoning, mathematical, and geometrical skills Ability to perform basic math skills including applying concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. (required)
• Ability to read, analyze and interpret red line drawings from Engineers, CAD Managers, or others on the project team. Strong communication skills to include the ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions, and the ability to interact effectively to maintain a team environment. (required)
