Kids for the Future in Lynchburg, VA is seeking an CAD Operator to design and support PLC-based control systems for a leading manufacturer in material handling. You will create electrical schematics and panel layouts, coordinate field wiring, and ensure production orders are prepared for fabrication.

Requirements include a 4-year degree or equivalent experience, proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, and familiarity with Allen Bradley controls.

Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering degree with emphasis on Industrial Control Systems.
  • 5 years of related industry experience in lieu of degree.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD Electrical software for panel layouts.
  • Familiar with UL508A safety conformance and NEC code.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and Rockwell HMIs.
  • Ability to interpret electrical schematics and motor circuits.

Responsibilities

  • Designs control panels and electrical schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Prepares field component layouts including conveyors.
  • Sketches motor and field components on layouts.
  • Designs safety circuits as required.
  • Selects PLCs (Allen Bradley/others) per project needs.
  • Produces bills of materials for panels and field components.
  • Supports wiring and assembly of control panels.
  • Coordinates interfaces with vendors and works overtime when needed.

Description

As an CAD Operator, you will be responsible for the design and support implementation of PLC-based control systems and panels for a leading manufacturer in the material handling industry.

Requirements

Duties & Responsibilities

Designs control panels and electrical schematics utilizing AutoCAD Electrical software.

Prepares field component layouts including conveyor layouts and sectionalizes conveyor per control systems requirement.

Sketch field components such as motors, solenoids, photo eyes, limit switches on field layout.

Designs safety circuits where applicable.

Selects programmable controller best suited for project according to I/O requirements, memory requirements and customer requirements.

Designs and specs motor and control circuits in accordance with UL508A specifications.

Generates bill of materials required for control panel, consoles and field components.

Prepares and processes production orders, ensuring the manufacturing team is informed of all items requiring fabrication and wiring

Support building and wiring of control panels.

Reviews preliminary drawings and bills of material and makes changes and corrections as required.

Coordinate needs, such as interfaces, with other vendors.

Work overtime as required

Education & Experience

Electrical Engineering degree with an emphasis on Industrial Control Systems (Associates or Bachelors)

5 years of related industry experience in lieu of degree

Allen Bradley Control, Compact Logix, and Slc 500.

HMI Experience with Rockwell

Technical Skills

Experience with PLC controls such as Allen Bradley, IFM, Siemens and Sick optic.

A good knowledge base of UL standards

Knowledge in NEC code

Experience with AutoCAD Electrical 2018 and newer

Experience with AutoCAD 2018 and newer

Microsoft Office and Excel

Ability to understand basic mechanical and electrical schematic drawings.

Bonus for NR12 Experience

Basic understanding of OHSA standards

Ability to work well with others.

Work in an office setting and ability to work overtime if the project requires.

Must be able to handle working on multiple projects at once.
