Job summary

Lockheed Martin Space in Huntsville, AL is seeking a design engineer to develop mechanical ground support equipment components and systems. You will work with engineers to produce CAD designs, drawings and documentation for procurement, manufacturing and testing.

The role emphasizes Creo/CAD proficiency, GD&T and collaboration across engineering teams to deliver reliable designs for spacecraft ground support equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year experience with ProE/Creo or other CAD 3D modeling (Creo, I-Deas, Solid Works, etc.).
• Experience with model-based definition.
• US Citizenship required to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Use Creo to develop plans, drawings, models, and installation CAD files for parts and assemblies.
• Create new parts, drawings, BOMs, assemblies, simplified reps, shrinkwraps.
• Support team members with design knowledge.
• Prepare complete production detail drawings per standard practices (ASME Y14.5).
• Complete design modifications to improve quality and facilitate manufacturing operations.
• Gathers information, performs studies and calculations, presents design proposals.
• Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups.

Responsibilities

The designer will work closely with engineers to provide component or portions of system designs of Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE), including handling, lifting, test, assembly and transportation of mechanical, and electrical components. The selected candidate will be responsible for engineering documentation, drawing/Computer Aided Design (CAD) maintenance and verification, and support of cross‑discipline product development. Responsibilities include:

• Use Creo to develop plans, drawings, models, revise and initiate formats for parts, assemblies, and installation engineering CAD files which are usable in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software packages.
• Create new parts, drawings, BOMs, assemblies, simplified reps, shrinkwraps
• Support team members with design knowledge
• Complete layout drawings prepared by others in accordance with standard engineering drafting practices (ASME Y14.5)
• Prepare complete production detail drawings
• Completes design modifications to improve quality of product or facilitate manufacturing operations

The ideal candidate will have good communications skills (both oral and written) and a background in Design processes.

Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilizes computer‑aided design equipment and/or graphic tools such as, CAD, CAM or CATIA. Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning group such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials, and contractual specifications.

Basic Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and 3 years of experience.
• 1 years experience with ProE/Creo or other Computer Aided Design (CAD) 3D modeling, drafting and release (Creo, I‑Deas, Solid Works, etc.)
• Experience with model‑based definition.
• US Citizenship required to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance. .

Desired Skills

• Associate's degree in a STEM related field
• Proficiency with ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T)
• Working knowledge of industrial standards and federal regulations including ANSI, OSHA, and AWS (including AWS weld symbology)
• Familiar with the development of Special Tooling (ST) / Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) used for the manufacture, integration, test, transport, and handling of spacecraft and associated critical hardware
• Demonstrated commitment to development and deployment of productivity / performance improvements and leveraging new technologies
• Advanced proficiency in EPDM Windchill and Creo
• Zuken experience and/or cabling and packaging experience for ground support equipment
• Exhibit strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in AI prompting as it applies to this position and practice

Pay Information

Full‑Time Salary Range: $48200.00 - $89400.00
