Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced CAD Designer with a strong background in sheet metal design and fabrication. This position will be responsible for creating detailed 2D and 3D CAD models, fabrication drawings, assemblies, and production documentation for sheet metal components and equipment.
The ideal candidate understands how CAD designs translate to the manufacturing floor and has hands-on knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes, bend allowances, tolerances, flat patterns, welding, laser cutting, punching, and forming.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models for sheet metal components, assemblies, enclosures, frames, panels, and fabricated equipment.
- Create accurate flat patterns, bend details, dimensions, tolerances, and fabrication drawings.
- Design parts considering manufacturability, material utilization, tooling, bend radius, and production capabilities.
- Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), drawings, specifications, and engineering documentation.
- Convert engineering concepts, sketches, customer drawings, and specifications into manufacturing-ready CAD drawings.
- Revise existing drawings based on engineering changes, production feedback, or customer requirements.
- Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, CNC programming, fabrication, welding, assembly, and quality teams.
- Ensure designs account for processes such as laser cutting, CNC punching, press brake forming, welding, machining, and assembly.
- Verify dimensions, tolerances, hole locations, bend lines, material thicknesses, and fit-up requirements.
- Support prototype development and resolve design or fabrication issues on the production floor.
- Maintain drawing revisions and engineering change documentation.
- Assist with design improvements focused on reducing fabrication time, material waste, and production costs.
Qualifications
- Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in CAD, Mechanical Design, Drafting, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 2+ years of CAD design/drafting experience, preferably within sheet metal fabrication or industrial manufacturing.
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal design and manufacturing principles.
- Experience with SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar CAD software.
- Ability to create and interpret fabrication drawings, GD&T, dimensions, tolerances, assemblies, and BOMs.
- Understanding of bend allowances, K-factor, bend radius, material thickness, flat-pattern development, and press brake operations.
- Familiarity with aluminum, stainless steel, galvanized steel, and carbon steel is preferred.
- Understanding of welding and mechanical assembly processes.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, customer specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple drawing and engineering priorities.
BENEFITS:
- Paid Sick Leave where applicable by State law
- Benefit offerings for full-time employment include medical, dental, vision, commuter benefits, and a 401k plan offered
- Annual discretionary bonus based on company and individual performance.
