Job summary

Elevait Solutions in Fairport, NY is seeking a CAD Designer to create 3D models, part and assembly drawings, and tooling documentation. You will apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5 to support precise manufacturing and inspection processes.

You will collaborate with engineers and machinists, ensuring designs are manufacturable with both traditional machining and FDM additive manufacturing. Strong CAD skills and experience with Creo or similar tools are required.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or technical certification in drafting, mechanical design, engineering technology, or related field.
• 3+ years of professional drafting/CAD experience in precision mechanical or optomechanical environments.
• Proficiency in mechanical CAD software and strong GD&T knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Create 3D models, part drawings, assembly drawings, and tooling documentation.
• Develop part specification drawings with geometry, tolerances, materials, finishes, and functional requirements.
• Design tooling, fixtures, and hardware for grinding, polishing, and metrology operations.
• Apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5 to support manufacturing and inspection requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers, machinists, technicians, and manufacturing staff on manufacturable designs.
• Incorporate design for manufacturability across conventional machining and FDM additive manufacturing.
• Support revision control and maintenance of released drawings and CAD models.
• Review and interpret engineering concepts, sketches, legacy drawings, and existing hardware for accurate documentation.
• Support tolerance, fit, and interface considerations for precision components.
• Help develop tooling concepts that improve handling, repeatability, throughput, and measurement accuracy.

What You'll Do

What We Need From You

• Must be a US Citizen or US Permanent Resident
• Associate degree or technical certification in Drafting, Mechanical Design, Engineering Technology, or a related field
• 3 or more years of professional drafting/CAD experience in precision mechanical or optomechanical environments
• Proficiency in mechanical CAD software
• Strong working knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5

Preferred / Bonus

• Experience with PTC Creo
• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Ceramic Engineering, Glass Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field
• Experience designing tooling, fixtures, or production support hardware
• Experience with optic generation processes or optomechanical systems
• Familiarity with FDM 3D printing
• Experience with PLM/PDM systems such as Windchill, Teamcenter, or Agile
• Knowledge of tolerance stack up analysis, materials, and surface finishes
