Job summary

Builders FirstSource, America’s largest supplier of building materials, seeks a design professional to create drawings and layouts from order forms and client selections. You will collaborate with sales and customers to ensure safe, code-compliant structures and complete design details from initial concepts.

The role requires an Associate’s degree or equivalent, experience with design tools like PrimeCad and AutoCAD, and the ability to review designs for efficient use of materials and labor.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or equivalent; 6 months to 1 year related experience may suffice.
• Proven ability to read and interpret design drawings and specifications.
• Familiarity with PrimeCad, MS Word, MS Excel, and AutoCAD preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with outside sales personnel and customers to accurately complete, safe and quality structures.
• Assures stability, deflection and load carries meeting or surpassing codes.
• Follow quality control procedures for completeness, accuracy, and code compliance for design standards implementations.
• Confer with client, technical staff, and other Design Services personnel; prepare design modifications as required.
• Develop and complete design details from original concept drawings and prepare layouts.
• Draw rough sketches or arrange for finished drawings or photographs to illustrate materials or assembly sequences.
• Write technical descriptions specifying material qualities and properties.
• Review design for efficient and profitable use of inventory, equipment, and labor.
