Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking a Drafting Intern in Wallingford, CT, to revise drawings and create basic component drawings from explicit instructions or sketches. The role involves learning drafting standards and contributing to multiple market assignments with a focus on Transmission & Distribution.

Applicants should be pursuing an engineering- or drafting-related degree, maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and have strong communication and analytical skills.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a relevant drafting or engineering technology degree.
• Currently enrolled in a post-secondary education or technical program related to the department work.
• Minimum GPA of 3.0 preferred.
• Prior internship or related consulting experience preferred.
• Active involvement in campus, community or volunteer activities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Self-motivated and eager to learn, with aptitude to grow in the field.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without future sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Revise existing drawings and prepare drawings of basic components from explicit verbal/written instructions or detailed sketches.
• Plot drawings and ensure compliance with company drafting standards and procedures.
• Learn and follow practices of a selected discipline; participate in assigned project work.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
