Job summary

Boundary Zone, Inc. is seeking a Civil Engineering Technician to support its Engineering and Surveying division in Clearwater/Tampa, FL and the Suwanee, GA office.

The role focuses on civil design, drafting, and coordination for land development projects, with emphasis on AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency. Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of progressive work experience in civil/stormwater design and drafting.

• FE certification preferred; Civil Engineering License preferred.

The primary responsibility of the Engineering Technician is to support the Engineering and Surveying department in the development of civil engineering design and drafting related to commercial, residential, and land development projects. Typical assignments will entail completion of civil engineering design and drafting related tasks associated with all facets of construction, municipal water, wastewater, and storm water related projects. The ideal candidate shall have proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for various types of Engineering/Surveying/Planning type projects.

This position reports to the land planning manager.

Essential Functions:

• In coordination with engineers and other designers/technicians, produce drawings and plan sets using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
• Prepare conceptual plans, permit sets, bid documents, drawings, addenda, and other work product as required by the project scope.
• Provides coordination between various sheets and disciplines of a plan set, neat and legible drafting, line weight control, and possesses a working knowledge of current National CAD Standards and local code requirements.
• Helps identify and develop sound solutions for the civil design of commercial, residential, and land development. Such tasks could include preparing plan and profiles for roads and utilities, grading and drainage plans, cut and fill calculations, calculating flow lines of wastewater and storm sewer gravity systems, etc.
• Produce various drawings specific to the project. Examples include: soil erosion plans, site layout, grading, storm sewer, water, sanitary sewer plans, construction layout, and construction staking, plot plans, formboard and foundation checks.
• Provides design review and quality control reviews of design and drafting components as required.
• Keeps project management advised of work status, workload issues, issue resolution, and progress related to the work assignment.
• Maintains project records and performs all other assigned duties.
• Share Engineering and AutoCAD knowledge with other team members.

Knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics:

• Minimum of 1 year of progressive work experience in the production/design and drafting of civil/stormwater engineering projects.
• Motivated self-starter, and team oriented progressive qualities required.
• Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely with written and verbal communication.
• Ability to work with others effectively on commercial, residential, and land development projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D. Knowledge of additional CAD software such as Revit is a plus.
• Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.
• Capacity to exercise independent judgment and initiative.
• Preparing and presenting information in a clear and concise manner.
• Soil and Erosion control reviewer certificate or ability to obtain it.
• FE certification preferred.
• Storm and Sanitary Sewer Analysis experience a plus.
