Job summary

Reliance, Inc. is seeking a CAD-oriented designer in the Plant family to transform initial rough product designs using computer-aided design (CAD) into working documents and layouts that meet engineering specifications.

You will prepare drawings, perform take-offs from blueprints, review drawings, and assist sales reps and service centers with CAD inquiries, while ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• 0–5 years of relevant experience or equivalent
• AutoCAD training and/or experience in the steel industry preferred
• Associate Degree with major course work in CAD or Industrial Design required
• Basic knowledge of custom processing equipment capabilities required
• Ability to read and extract parts from assembly drawings required
• Knowledge of arithmetic required
• Strong computer proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft applications required
• Ability to exercise discretion when handling sensitive/confidential sales information required
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively required
• Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including knowledge, experience, and judgment required
• Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and customers/vendors required

Responsibilities

• Transform initial rough product designs using CAD into working documents
• Prepare lay-outs, drawings and designs according to engineering specifications
• Performs take off on blueprints/drawings
• Review engineering drawings and supporting documentation and analyzes designs
• Retrieves necessary details to complete drawing, layout or design
• Work with sales rep responsible for sales order or quote and/or customers for drawing information and verification
• Assist inside/outside sales reps and/or outlying service centers with CAD inquiries and/or estimating jobs
• Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards
• All other duties and responsibilities assigned by management
