Job summary

Reliance, Inc. is seeking a CAD/design professional to transform rough product designs into working drawings using CAD tools.

You will prepare layouts and drawings according to engineering specifications and collaborate with sales and service teams for accurate CAD information. The role emphasizes attention to safety and quality standards, with responsibilities spanning blueprint take-offs, documentation reviews, and multitasking across projects in a metals processing and distribution

Qualifications

• 0-5 years of relevant experience or equivalent education.
• AutoCad training and/or experience in the steel industry preferred.
• Associate Degree with CAD or Industrial Design coursework required.
• Basic knowledge of custom processing equipment capabilities required.

Responsibilities

• Transform initial rough product designs using CAD into working documents.
• Prepare lay-outs, drawings and designs per engineering specs.
• Perform take offs on blueprints/drawings.
• Review engineering drawings and supporting documentation.
• Retrieve necessary details to complete drawing/layout/design.
• Coordinate with sales for drawings and verification.
• Assist sales reps and service centers with CAD inquiries.
• Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Carry out other duties as assigned by management.

Job Summary

This job is in the Plant family (Department), which includes positions responsible for supervising or performing work metals processing and distribution work within the Reliance family of companies. Work includes specialized equipment operation and/or supporting functions and requires a practical knowledge of the nature and operations and the materials, facilities and methods employed by Reliance companies in metals processing and distribution.

Job Function

• Responsible for transforming initial rough product designs using computer-aided design (CAD) into working documents.
• Prepares lay-outs, drawings and designs according to engineering specifications.
• Performs take off on blueprints/drawings.
• Reviews engineering drawings and supporting documentation and analyzes designs.
• Retrieves any necessary details to complete drawing, layout or design.
• Works with the sales representative responsible for the sales order or quote and/or customers for drawing information and verification.
• Assists inside/outside sales reps and/or outlying service centers with CAD inquiries and/or estimating jobs.
• Responsible for adhering to/ensuring compliance with applicable safety and quality standards.
• All other duties and responsibilities assigned by management.

Required Skills

• 0-5 years of relevant experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities required.
• AutoCad training and/or experience in the steel industry preferred.
• Associate Degree with major course work in CAD or Industrial Design required.
• Basic knowledge of custom processing equipment capabilities required required.
• Ability to read and extract parts from assembly drawings required.
• Knowledge of arithmetic required.
• Strong computer proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft applications required.
• Ability to exercise discretion when handling sensitive/confidential sales information required.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively required.
• Ability to make sound decisions based on a combination of factors including knowledge, experience, and judgment required.
• Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, and customers/vendors required.
