Job summary

MINNESOTA WIRE & CABLE COMPANY seeks an Entry level Cabling Technician at the Eau Claire plant to follow production plans, operate cabling equipment, and ensure high workmanship. You will log tasks, inspect work, and contribute to continuous improvement in a busy manufacturing setting.

The role requires a High School diploma, ability to read prints, and a willingness to learn. Manual dexterity and physical capability to lift moderate weights are needed in this on-site position.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience with cabling processes is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret prints.

Responsibilities

  • Follow production plans and procedures in controlling documents.
  • Set up and operate cabling equipment according to drawings.
  • Adjust machine settings for optimal output.
  • Log production jobs and complete related paperwork.
  • Select tooling and inspect with pin gauges.
  • Maintain proper concentricity and tooling installation.
  • Meet material usage targets and run-rate as per router.
  • Use calibrated equipment and maintain work area cleanliness.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Role

The role of the Cabling Technician is to follow the production plans and procedures found in the controlling documents, provide high level product workmanship, provide continuous improvement input, and provide support for planned and unplanned maintenance events and DOE’s, including actions to reduce hazardous conditions.

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform basic math and computer skills
  • Understand and follow all work instructions pertaining to cabling to the highest degree
  • Interpret engineering specifications and drawings to proficiently set up and operate cabling equipment without supervision
  • Adjust machine settings to produce optimal product
  • Accurately log in/out of production jobs, complete all related paperwork; reel tag, production report, inspection table, etc.
  • Select proper tooling option according to need and inspect using a pin gauge
  • Properly install tooling and adjust for correct concentricity
  • Meet the allocated material usage (including X% startup scrap), set-up time and run-rate of the process router
  • Properly use all calibrated equipment pertaining to cabling process
  • Demonstrate proper work center housekeeping and tooling crib integrity
  • Exhibit a positive attitude and a desire to learn
Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills
  • Experience – Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to multi-task is required. Excellent spatial perspective. Ability to follow instructions and provide necessary documentation.
  • Education – High School Diploma or equivalent
Interpersonal Skills
  • The ability to understand verbal, written or visual instruction
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate with the supervisor
Other Requirements
  • Can legally work in the United States
  • Demonstrated ability in Minnesota Wire standard manufacturing processes
  • Display and efficiency in quality work processes
  • Efficiency in reading and interpreting prints
  • Must be able to lift 8 to 75 pounds based on the individual assigned department
  • Ability to maintain work schedule
  • Willingness to learn new tasks and assignments
