Job summary

  • Must be able to obtain base credentials.

  • Work from blueprints and technical manuals. Receive instructions on semi‑routine and difficult assignments.
  • Perform all necessary tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of systems and equipment.
  • Conduct on‑site installation of equipment and follow established testing procedures to ensure proper working order.

Summary

We are seeking a Cableway Technician to support shipboard cableway and electrical system installations by preparing technical documentation, performing hands‑on maintenance, and coordinating daily activities with the cableway team. This full‑time role is located in Virginia Beach, VA.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and use technical documents including controlled work packages, formal work processes and procedures, test documents, reports and task or trip reports.
  • Schedule, report and brief customers and senior management.
  • Collaborate with the cableway shipboard team on day‑to‑day activities.
  • Perform duties outside of specialty to complete installation or work assignments.
  • Work from blueprints and technical manuals. Receive instructions on semi‑routine and difficult assignments.
  • Perform all necessary tasks (semi‑skilled and unskilled) related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of systems and equipment.
  • Conduct on‑site installation of equipment and follow established testing procedures to ensure proper working order.
What You Must Have
  • High School education or equivalent trade school experience and 4 years of related experience.
  • Experience with marine electrical systems.
  • Must provide own hand tools as designated per trade specialty.
  • Demonstrated competence in Microsoft applications.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain all necessary base credentials.
Bonus Points For
  • Thorough knowledge of the installation requirements contained in MIL‑STD 2003, NAVSEA 9090‑310, NAVSEA Standard Items, and the 9304.1.
  • Current, valid DoD Secret security clearance or higher.
  • Previously or currently certified with the NAVSEA Cableway Program.
  • Currently or previously certified in Program Logic controllers.
  • Former Navy personnel (EM, IC, ET, FT, FC, IT).
  • Certified NAVSEA Cableway inspector with 4 years of experience.
Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes (no less than 30 lbs). Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards, under industrial conditions, and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required, which may involve high heat, humidity, noise, and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.

Salary Range

Anticipated salary range: $44,808.00 – $84,410.00.
