Job summary

TEKsystems is seeking a cable installation technician for a contract-to-hire role based in Fort Myers, FL. You will pull, route, and manage CAT5e/6/6A and fiber, terminate copper and fiber connectors, and test links with field equipment.

You’ll install racks and support hardware, troubleshoot cabling faults, and ensure safety and proper documentation. This onsite role requires physical stamina, familiarity with blueprints, and preferably BICSI certifications.

Qualifications

• Deep knowledge of low-voltage cabling systems and standard practices.
• Blueprint reading: read blueprints, schematics, and construction drawings.
• Tools familiarity: crimpers, punch-down tools, and cable testers.
• Physical stamina: lift heavy materials, climb ladders, work in tight spaces.
• Certifications: BICSI certifications often required.

Responsibilities

Cable Installation: Pull, route, and manage CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6A, and fiber optic cabling through cable trays, racks, and conduits.

Termination & Testing: Terminate copper (patch panels, jacks) and fiber (LC, SC) connectors; test and certify links with equipment like Fluke analyzers.

Infrastructure Build-out: Install racks, cabinets, cable pathways, and supporting hardware.

System Maintenance: Troubleshoot, identify, and repair cabling faults and connectivity issues.

Safety & Compliance: Adhere to all safety procedures (OSHA, NFPA), including safe use of ladders and lift equipment.

Documentation: Label all cables and ports, and update documentation or as-built drawings
