Job summary

Pike Electric LLC is seeking a Cable Splicer to construct and repair electrical underground systems. The role involves working on energized and de-energized lines, travel to various sites, and reporting to the Foreman.

The position requires safe execution, leadership in absence of supervision, and mentorship of apprentices. Responsibilities include installing underground conductors, performing live-line work with appropriate PPE, and operating heavy equipment.

Qualifications

• Three years of underground experience required.
• Valid CDL.
• Willingness to travel long distances.
• Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
• Work extended hours including weekends/overtime.

Responsibilities

• Construct, maintain and repair energized and de-energized underground systems with safety first.
• Lead crew members in absence of IC and conduct pre-job safety briefings.
• Train apprentices and groundmen.
• Install and repair underground power conductors and related hardware.
• Utilize proper tools and test equipment for tagging, grounding and voltage checks.
• Work in confined spaces and near energized equipment.
• Operate backhoe, bucket trucks, digger trucks, and mini excavator.
• Perform live-line work using gloving and hot-stick techniques.
• Support outages, storms and emergencies including on-call rotations.
• Follow all safety protocols and PPE requirements.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Cable Splicer is a safety focused professional with the ability to construct and repair electrical underground systems. You will work on energized and de ‑ energized systems and may be required travel to different job sites, including out ‑ of ‑ state locations, as operational and customer needs dictate. You will report to the Foreman.

Position Summary

The Cable Splicer is a safety focused professional with the ability to construct and repair electrical underground systems. You will work on energized and de ‑ energized systems and may be required travel to different job sites, including out ‑ of ‑ state locations, as operational and customer needs dictate. You will report to the Foreman.

Essential Functions

• Perform new construction, maintain and repair energized and de ‑ energized underground new work systems with safety first.


• Lead crew members in the absence of the Employee in Charge and conduct pre-job and tailgate safety briefing.


• Train and mentor apprentices and groundmen.


• Install and repair underground power, conductors and related hardware.


• Comprehensive knowledge of tagging procedures, grounding and induced voltage on energized and de-energized lines using the proper tools and test equipment and understanding of underground services, infrastructure and duct banks.


• Work in confined spaces, and in proximity to energized equipment.


• Will operate a backhoe, bucket trucks and digger trucks, mini excavator.


• Work outdoors in varying environmental conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and inclement weather.


• Available to work outages, storms, emergencies including on call rotation.


• Perform live ‑ line work using approved gloving and hot ‑ stick techniques of energized lines.


• Follow all safety protocols including PPE use and a comprehensive understanding of insulated protective cover to isolate differences of potential.

Minimum Requirements

• Three (3) years of recent underground experience.


• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL).


• Willingness to travel long distances on short notice.


• Lift, carry, push, or pull materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.


• Work for extended periods at job locations, including out ‑ of ‑ state assignments.


• Willingness to work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, holidays, emergency callouts, and overtime.

While performing the responsibilities of this job, you are frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. You are occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. You will perform job responsibilities in extreme heat, cold, wet, windy, and storm conditions.
