Position Overview

The Cabinet Shop Assistant position is a 12-month staff role responsible for supporting the lead cabinet maker. Duties include moving and staging supplies, preparing materials for fabrication, routine finishing and repair, and casework installations. The role also involves assisting in fabrication and installation tasks within the Custom Cabinet Shop on the Senatobia Campus. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Physical Plant in the Department of Construction and Maintenance.

Qualifications
  • Valid driver's license and ability to maintain it
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow millwork drawings and safety data sheets; follow verbal instructions related to construction
  • Basic knowledge of raw materials, shop safety, and woodworking equipment
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, climb, and work from ladders
  • Preferred: Experience in construction or maintenance fields
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Lead Cabinet Maker with fabrication, finishing, installation, and repair of furniture and casework
  • Assist with measuring and planning for casework installation
  • Support casework installation, including working from scaffolds, ladders, or lifts
  • Provide backup maintenance assistance in related trades
  • Support Moving and Events crew as needed
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director or Assistant Director of Construction and Maintenance
