Description

The Cabinet Builder is responsible for constructing, assembling, and finishing custom wooden cabinets and furniture. This role requires a thorough understanding of woodworking techniques, the ability to read and interpret blueprints or design plans, and the skill to operate various woodworking tools and machinery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Reading and Interpreting Blueprints: Review design plans, blueprints, and drawings to understand the specifications and requirements for each cabinet project.
  • Material Selection: Choose appropriate types of wood, hardware, and other materials needed for construction based on project specifications.
  • Cutting and Shaping Wood: Use saws, routers, planers, and other tools to cut and shape wood to the required dimensions.
  • Assembly: Assemble cabinet components, such as frames, doors, shelves, and drawers, using nails, screws, dowels, and adhesives. Ensure that all joints are secure and that components fit together properly.
  • Finishing: Sand and prepare surfaces for finishing, and apply stains, paints, or varnishes as required. Install hardware, such as hinges, handles, and drawer pulls.
  • Quality Control: Inspect completed cabinets to ensure they meet quality standards and design specifications. Make any necessary adjustments or repairs.
  • Maintenance of Tools and Equipment: Maintain and clean woodworking tools and machinery to ensure they are in good working order.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and guidelines, including the use of protective equipment, to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with designers, other builders, and supervisors to ensure that projects are completed accurately and on time.
Requirements
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in woodworking, carpentry, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience: 5 years previous experience as a cabinet builder or in a similar woodworking role is highly desirable.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in using various woodworking tools and machinery (hand tools, different saw types, edge banders, routers etc.)
    • Strong understanding of woodworking techniques and principles.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and design plans.
    • Attention to detail and precision in construction and measuring.
    • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to make adjustments as needed.
    • Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, bend, and lift for extended periods.
