Job description

Do you like working outside? Are you a people pleaser? Are you able to complete tasks unsupervised and independently? If you are interested in learning about almost every aspect of working in hospitality, our Cabin Steward position is for you! Cabin Stewards are responsible for meeting & greeting newly arrived guests, assisting them with luggage, and providing an orientation to the resort's property and amenities. In addition, Cabin Stewards are responsible for daily cottage services including laying fires, filling wood boxes, delivering fresh ice and glassware, cleaning cottage porches, and providing light maintenance services. Cabin Stewards interact with all levels of Resort management, as well as most other department employees, so the position will provide an opportunity to gain real insight into the operation of Maine's premiere lakeside Full American Plan resort.

Hours: Full-time. Three shifts: 6:30am to 3pm, 8:30am to 5pm, or 10am to 7pm
Compensation: $15 - $16.50 per hour, depending on experience. + 7% of wages incentive payment
Seasonal Position: May through October 2025
Start date: April/May
Benefits: Discounted stays and food & beverage at affiliated properties
Experience: No previous experience is required.

Housing may be available to full-time candidates; local candidates may not be eligible for housing.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Cabin Stewards are responsible for greeting guests, assisting with moving luggage, orienting guests to accommodations and property, as well as assisting with light maintenance and deliveries of messages, packages, faxes, etc. to guests and other staff members. This position requires an outgoing personality, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work without constant direct supervision. This job is for candidates who like being on their feet and who think quickly on their feet. Past Cabin Stewards' favorite part of the job is being able to be outside all day, enjoying interacting with guests and working under the pines along the shores of beautiful Sebago Lake. You will be an ambassador, a problem solver, a smiling face, and an answer center for our guests. You will have the chance to form bonds with guests as part of your frequent daily interactions.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain a neat and professional appearance with a properly cleaned uniform.
  • Welcome and acknowledge each and every guest with a smile, eye contact, and a friendly verbal greeting, using the guest’s name when possible.
  • Engage guests in conversation and actively orient guests to the property, amenities, and experiences.
  • Thank guests with genuine appreciation and bid them a fond farewell at departure.
  • Actively listen to and respond positively to guest questions, concerns, and requests. Anticipate guest service needs. Proactively approach guests needing service or assistance.
  • Must be able to lift and move guest luggage, hotel supplies, and heavy boxes, maintenance equipment that can weigh more than 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to place luggage in appropriate areas in guest accommodations or luggage storage areas according to property specifications or guest requests. Must be able to assist guests with unloading and loading luggage from vehicles.
  • Offer to park cars for guests or if requested, according to property procedures. Return car keys to designated area assigned at each property.
  • Correctly set up accommodations according to daily directions and according to property procedures.
  • Use discretion to avoid disturbing guests in rooms or public spaces. Understand how everything operates in guest rooms (climate control, fireplaces, fans, lighting, etc.) and be able to explain operations to our guests.
  • Responsible for security of any room or supply closet keys, as well as for respecting the personal property and privacy of guests while working in guest rooms.
  • Be prepared to answer basic questions about the property, activities, etc., or know where to refer guests for answers.
  • Work with colleagues to ensure that guests’ needs are continually met. Make front desk staff aware of any special needs so that notes can be made for future visits.
  • Handle and communicate guest requests, special needs, guest room or public space maintenance issues, and guest complaints in a professional manner.
  • Perform light maintenance duties, grounds keeping, and landscaping tasks as assigned or as you notice these routine tasks need to be completed.
  • Label and submit all lost and found items according to property procedures.
  • Understand personal sanitation, the use of personal protective equipment, and how to handle unsanitary items, bodily fluids, etc. Be aware of ways to prevent personal injury from improper reaching, lifting, stretching, and carrying.
  • Know who to notify in case of broken equipment or unsafe/unsanitary conditions.
  • Manually handle/lift/carry product up to 60 pounds between knee and shoulders. May occasionally have to lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Must have bilateral fine manipulation of both hands which may be repetitive for the entire shift.
  • Must be vertically mobile for the entire shift.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and written, with guests and employees, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work as a part of a team.
  • Ability to understand verbal directions, labels on chemicals, and other workplace safety signage.
  • Active listening and observation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deal with deadlines and stressful situations.
