Job summary

CLA is seeking a Controller for its CAAS practice in Nashville. You will lead internal controls, budgeting, and financial planning while coordinating with clients and our team to deliver tailored accounting services.

The role emphasizes collaboration, client relationships, and strategic financial guidance within a professional services environment. Ideal candidates have 6+ years of relevant accounting experience, a Bachelor's degree, and proficiency with QuickBooks and MS Office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; CPA preferred but not required.
• 6 years of accounting/financial experience required; logistics experience preferred.
• Public accounting experience preferred.
• Proficiency with accounting software; QuickBooks highly preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for budgeting, cash and credit management, and accounting.
• Coordinate and direct financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investment activities; prepare financial information.
• Prepare and direct preparation of financial statements, reports, forecasts, budgets, or regulatory reports.
• Evaluate needs for funds procurement and investment of surpluses and provide recommendations.
• Monitor ratios and KPIs.
• Evaluate performance of accounting staff and implement actions.
• Advise management on financial objectives, policies, and actions.
• Communicate with boards, bankers, investors, and others; prepare board presentations when needed.

CLA is looking for a Controller with Professional Service I** ndustry experience, to join our CAAS ( _ Client Accounting & Advisory Services _ )** practice.

Job Description

• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.

• Coordinate and directs the financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investment activities for all or part of an organization. Prepare financial information.

• Prepare and/or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.

• Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations.

• Monitor ratio and key performance indicators (KPI).

• Monitor and evaluates the performance of accounting and other financial staff, recommending and implementing actions.

• Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.

• Communicate on a regular basis with boards, bankers, investors, constituents, etc.; may include prepping for and/or hosting board presentations.

Education/Experience

• _ Education: _Bachelor’s degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree. CPA certification is preferred but not required.

• _ Experience _: 6 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required (logistics industry experience is highly preferred). Public accounting experience preferred.

• Aptitude for developing and maintaining a thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems. QuickBooks experience is highly preferred.

• Proficiency with applicable software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).

• _ Travel _: This position requires working primarily in-office, including local travel to/from client sites (depending on location), as well as occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business-related purposes.

Skills/Knowledge

• An understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (FASB/SFAS) or other comprehensive basis of accounting
