Job summary

CLA, a national firm with 8,500 employees and 130 offices, is seeking a Controller for its CAAS practice. You will work 1:1 with clients to deliver customized accounting services, developing internal controls and financial planning.

The role emphasizes collaboration and growth, with in-office requirements and local travel. Ideal candidates have a Bachelor's degree, 7 years' accounting experience (public accounting preferred), CPA preferred, and strong skills in QuickBooks and MS Office.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; CPA preferred but not required.
• 7 years of relevant accounting/financial experience; public accounting preferred.
• Aptitude for using accounting software; QuickBooks highly preferred.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
• Travel: in-office with local travel to client sites and occasional non-local travel.

Responsibilities

• Develop internal control policies and procedures for budgeting and cash management.
• Coordinate financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investments; prepare financial information.
• Direct preparation of financial statements and regulatory reports.
• Evaluate funding needs and investment of surpluses; make recommendations.
• Monitor KPI and staff performance; implement improvements as needed.
• Advise management on financial objectives, policies, and actions.
• Communicate regularly with boards, bankers, investors and stakeholders; assist with board presentations.

As a member of CLA's CAAS practice, you will be an integral part of the CLA client service team and will work directly 1:1 with our clients to provide customized accounting services to support them as they manage and grow their business or organization. CLA is looking for a Controller with Professional Service Industry experience, to join our CAAS (Client Accounting & Advisory Services) practice.

Job Description:

• Develop internal control policies, guidelines, and procedures for activities such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting.
• Coordinate and directs the financial planning, budgeting, procurements, or investment activities for all or part of an organization. Prepare financial information.
• Prepare and/or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, budgets, or reports required by regulatory agencies.
• Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses and make appropriate recommendations.
• Monitor ratio and key performance indicators (KPI).
• Monitor and evaluates the performance of accounting and other financial staff, recommending and implementing actions.
• Advise management on short-term and long-term financial objectives, policies, and actions.
• Communicate on a regular basis with boards, bankers, investors, constituents, etc.; may include prepping for and/or hosting board presentations.

Education/Experience:

• Education: Bachelor's degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree. CPA certification is preferred but not required.
• Experience: 7 years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required. Public accounting experience preferred.
• Aptitude for developing and maintaining a thorough working knowledge of accounting software and systems. QuickBooks experience is highly preferred.
• Proficiency with applicable software (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
• Travel: This position requires working primarily in-office, including local travel to/from client sites (depending on location), as well as occasional non-local or overnight travel for client visits, training, meetings and/or other business-related purposes.

The compensation range for this position in Massachusetts is: $116,000.00 - $187,000.00

The compensation range for this position in Illinois is: $87,000.00 - $175,000.00
