Job summary

CLA is seeking a Controller for our Non-Profit Services (CAAS) practice, with opportunities in multiple U.S. locations including Ohio. The role focuses on leading client accounting, advising on finance best practices, and managing several engagements concurrently.

You will oversee financial statements, support clients with governance and compliance, and help drive growth through industry events and training. A CPA is preferred, and nonprofit experience is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Eight years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience required.
• Bachelor’s degree required; combination of related experience accepted in lieu of degree.
• Public accounting experience preferred; nonprofit experience highly preferred.
• CPA certification is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Act as the Controller for the designated clients you service.
• Provide advisory guidance on accounting and finance engagements.
• Manage multiple clients, work, and deadlines as a project manager.
• Prepare and analyze client financial statements and make recommendations.
• Build opportunities and participate in industry events and trainings.
• Maintain knowledge of client policies, directives, and accounting standards.
• Advise management on financial objectives and actions.

CLA is looking to hire a Controller for our Non-Profit Services (CAAS) practice. Opportunities are available in our Chicago, Missouri, Indiana and Ohio locations

As a Controller, You Will

• Act as the Controller for the designated clients you service.
• Take on the role of consultant and advisor to your clients on best practices for accounting and finance-related engagements.
• Provide project management expertise by managing multiple clients, work, and deadlines.
• Prepare and analyze client financial statements and make recommendations.
• Foster and build opportunities and attend industry-leading events and trainings.
• Maintain knowledge of the client’s organizational policies and procedures, federal and state policies and directives, and current accounting standards.
• Advise management on short-term and long term-financial objectives, policies, and actions.

What You Will Need

• Eight years of relevant accounting and/or financial experience is required.
• Bachelor’s degree is required. Combination of related experience, education, and training may be accepted in lieu of degree.
• Public accounting experience preferred.
• Experience in Nonprofit is highly preferred.
• CPA certification is preferred but not required.
• Prior project management and client management experience preferred but not required.

The compensation range for this position in Illinois is: $87,000.00 – $175,000.00
